How to have a happy January: Make time for friends

If you spend a bit too much time on your phone, then perhaps the New Year is a good time to make some changes.

Sure, it's easy to keep in touch with all your friends with WhatsApp and IMs, but nothing beats a real conversation with a real person - especially if that person is struggling.

We've asked some of the biggest names in pop and the stars of Radio 1 for their advice on making January 2017 the happiest ever. Here's what Greg James had to say about the way we use our mobiles.

"Spend some time, even if it's on the phone, calling your friends and family," says Greg.

"We're all a bit in our phones, thinking a WhatsApp message is enough. Sometimes it's not.

"Sometimes it's nice to spend a few minutes with someone and just ask 'Are you OK?'. Call more people and meet up with them for coffee more."

Clara Amfo agrees.

"If someone pops into your mind, ring them," she added.

"Make more time for actual conversation. Less texting, more phone calls."
