The 2017 Razzie Nominees That We Love Unashamedly
From the Oscars to the 'Razzies' - The kind of nomination you don't want
When films are good… and when they aren’t.
Everyone's buzzing about the 2017 Oscar nominations, but before it was revealed that La La Land has 14 nods, those other nominations were revealed... The Razzies. Celebrating the worst Hollywood performances of the year, we can't help but think they're a little mean - especially to these nominees that we love unconditionally.
Robert De Niro, nominated for Worst Actor, Dirty Grandpa
Anne Hathaway & Robert De Niro with Matt Edmondson | R1 Movies
Anne Hathaway on the Mary Poppins question and Robert De Niro auditions as Dick Van Dyke.
So, we know that Dirty Grandpa – the story of Jason (Zac Efron) ending up on a warped spring break with his grandpa (De Niro), despite them both being varying degrees of overage – is not a great film. Even if you’re a teen movie aficionado, this one lands slightly on the wrong side of crude, which does make for uncomfortable viewing at times. But who would nominate Robert De Niro for a Razzie?! The man is a legend. He has two Oscars! We demand a recount.
Ben Affleck, nominated for Worst Actor, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice
(Warning: third party content may contain adverts)
Not our buddy Ben Affleck, too?! Sure, fans might have been sceptical about his casting as Batman initially, but his performance was critically acclaimed – and he looked great in the Batsuit. His Razzie nomination comes just one year after he won their Redeemer Award – and seven years after being nominated for Worst Actor Of The Decade. It seems The Razzies have a love/hate relationship with Mr Affleck.
Shailene Woodley, nominated for Worst Actress, Divergent Series: Allegiant
(Warning: third party content may contain adverts)
Her career may not have quite reached the dizzy heights of Jennifer Lawrence yet, but Shailene Woodley is a pretty great, versatile actress. We all know some franchise films are better than others, so with two super successful Divergent movies under her belt before Allegiant, the box office numbers were bound to slump at some point – but Shailene put in a consistent performance throughout.
Kate Hudson, nominated for Worst Supporting Actress, Mother’s Day
Kate Hudson: "If we weren't working 110% then we'd hear it from them"
Kate Hudson explains how Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell kept her grounded.
Who doesn’t love Kate Hudson? She’s basically a younger version of her mum, Goldie Hawn, and that can only be a good thing. Plus her character, Jesse, tackles so many family dramas we can all relate to. Mother’s Day was also the last film that Garry Marshall directed before he sadly passed away just months after its 2016 release, so we have a massive soft spot for it.
Suicide Squad, nominated for Worst Screenplay
Will Smith & Margot Robbie: Playground Insults
The stars of Suicide Squad hurl childish insults at each other. Who will be victorious?
It was critically panned, but we stand by Suicide Squad, mostly for Margot Robbie’s excellent performance as Harley Quinn. The soundtrack was also epic - more about that .
Zoolander 2, nominated for Worst Picture and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off Or Sequel
It was never going to be as hilarious as the OG film, but Zoolander 2 still made us giggle, and its list of celebrity cameos was probably the most impressive we've ever seen. It opened with , people!
The Entire Cast of Once Respected Actors, nominated for Worst Screen Combo, Collateral Beauty
(Warning: third party content may contain adverts)
Disclaimer: we know Collateral Beauty wasn't a great film, even if it did make us cry (the holidays are an emotional time for anyone...). However, for The Razzies to group Will Smith, Edward Norton, Kate Winslet, Naomie Harris, Keira Knightley and DAME HELEN MIRREN as "the entire cast of once respected actors" is just too much. We will watch anything with the Dame in it, no matter what they say.
