All the best celebrity reactions to the 2017 Oscar nominations
Not all La La Land: Oscar nominations announced
Just when you thought Stone Gosling and had it all sewn up.
Yesterday's Oscar nominations saw La La Land receive 14 nods, Meryl Streep make history with her 20th nomination and Deadpool... well, Deadpool didn't get nominated for anything. So how did the celebs react to their triumphs and tribulations? These are a few of our favourite statements...
Meryl Streep, nominated for Best Actress - Florence Foster Jenkins
Just how does one celebrate a record-breaking 20th Oscar nomination? Or are you completely over it by that point? Not if you're Meryl Streep, who had her publicist send out an email saying, “Please find the following GIF as a statement on behalf of Meryl Streep." The GIF in question is from the Paul McCartney music video Queenie Eye, which starred a whole host of celebrities including Kate Moss, Jude Law and James Corden, and shows Meryl dancing her socks off. So we guess she's pretty chuffed, then.
Naomie Harris, nominated for Best Supporting Actress - Moonlight
Another fan of the GIF approach, Naomie Harris took to Twitter to share her post-nominations announcement mood. Sweetly, her sister Maxwell also tweeted, writing, "MY SISTER IS NOMINATED FOR AN OSCAR!!" with all the party popper emojis. Aww.
Ryan Gosling, nominated for Best Actor - La La Land

Despite starring in La La Land, Ryan Gosling didn't make a song and dance about his statement. “I’m very grateful to the Academy for recognising my work in La La Land," he said. "It was a true collaboration, so to see everyone else’s wonderful work on the film acknowledged so generously makes it even more special."
Emma Stone, nominated for Best Actress - La La Land

Ryan's co-star, Emma Stone, added a few more jazz hands to her statement. “What a morning. I am so grateful for this honour and I’m so happy to share this feeling with my La La Land family," she said. "The greatest part of life is connecting with people, and I love the deeply talented, kind and passionate people I was lucky enough to work with on this movie.
"I’m also overjoyed that the movie has connected with audiences in the way it has, and that it’s hopefully bringing a kick in their step to those who watch it. This is beyond any of our wildest imaginings and we can’t wait to celebrate together."
Dev Patel, nominated for Best Supporting Actor - Lion
'Did anyone else make you pretend you'd won?' - How Greg made Dev Patel very, very anxious
Poor Dev reckoned he was already jinxed!
Dev's statement may have been long, but it made us love him even more, as well as packing a punch. “Ok, so I just received a call to say that I’ve been nominated for an Academy Award... To be totally honest, the news hasn’t made it’s way into my brain yet, but I’m looking at these beautiful smiling faces around me… Faces of the ones I love. And I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude.
What makes this moment so much more poignant is that I’m in India right now. This enthralling country holds such a deep place in my heart, and it is where Saroo’s journey was born. This film would be nothing without Garth Davis. Without his love, commitment and vision this ‘Lion’ wouldn’t have been able to roar. To that extent I want to share this incredible feeling with Luke, Grieg, Jenny Kent, Iain, Angie, Emile, Sunny, Nicole, David, Rooney, Divian, Priyanka, the Brierley family as well as the Weinstein Co team.
"Lion reaffirms the message that love is not dictated by the color of your skin, not by race, gender, sexuality, social status, or origin. It is a message I am proud to be spreading during these uncertain times. This will forever be one of the most memorable experiences of my life.
Dev x”
Lin-Manuel Miranda, nominated for Best Original Song - How Far I'll Go (Moana)
After a series of tweets featuring nothing but emojis, Hamilton musical creator Lin-Manuel Miranda revealed that being nominated for an Oscar makes you just a little busy answering phone calls, later adding, "So I was on my lunch break watching Federer on a delay when my phone vibrated off the table".
Viola Davis, nominated for Best Supporting Actress - Fences
Viola Davis wrote this lovely tweet and shout-out to her director, Denzel. This year the Academy have been applauded for nominating a record six black actors and actresses, after the #OscarsSoWhite controversy over the past two years, and a longtime lack of diversity in their honourees.
Ryan Reynolds

If you've got a semi-permanent eyebrow issue, Ryan Reynolds can help. Kind of.
Despite his 2016 blockbuster Deadpool being snubbed at in this year's Oscar nominations, good old Ryan Reynolds was still up for some Twitter bants, and graciously congratulated the nominees.
In case you don't get the whole "tickle-fight" reference, after Deadpool was nominated for two Golden Globes, Ryan tweeted, "Thank you, Golden Globes! As we speak, the entire Deadpool team is engaged in a grotesque, early morning tickle-fight." We're glad to see business resuming as usual.
