POLITICAL EXTREMISMÌýand DEMOCRACY
Laurie Taylor considers the fluctuating relationship between the Extreme Right and democracy in Europe.
Two of the questions currently exercising political science are how to counteract an ideology which even the experts find hard to define and how to do it in a democratic way?
Laurie Taylor is joined by journalist who spent six years travelling round the world talking to white extreme nationalist groups and to Dr.Ìý, a political scientist at the University of Antwerp who’s been investigating the dangers to democracy of introducing measures to punish not just anti-democratic actions but anti-democratic ideas.
SOCIOLOGY OF DANCE
The quadrille is an early case of cultural globalisation.Ìý A French dance which might have been Scottish and certainly had a bit of English in it, but which came to have a special resonance for 19th century African and Creole slaves in the Caribbean.
Professor , a dance sociologist Goldsmiths College, University of London, guides Laurie Taylor through this complicated European set dance known and explains how it has come to embody a historical racial struggle and spiritual awakening.
