NORFOLK PARK ESTATE
This is the first programme in a summer series in which Laurie Taylor takes an ethnographic tour of the UK.
He visits the Norfolk Park Housing Estate in Sheffield with ethnographer , Senior Lecturer in Town and Regional Planning atÌýthe University of Sheffield, who has conducted research amongst the residents there. The estate was built in the 1960s with fifteen high rise blocks set in rolling parkland and is much loved by its residents.
In the early 90s the decision was taken to demolish the towers and re-develop Norfolk Park. But, ten years on, many residents are still waiting to be re-housed on the estate.
Simone introduces Laurie to some of the residents who took part in her research: Kim McMaster, Chair of the Residents Association; Joan Hubbard from the Community Forum;ÌýGurminder Singh, shopkeeper; Norma Hyde, Chair of the Age Well Group and resident Dorothy Bellamy .
