The Smears' new album, 'Hell in High Heels', has been recorded on limited edition pink vinyl. Emma says: "It's a different feel on vinyl and you can actually see the grooves of the track." That's a lot different to what we've done in the past.'" Natalie adds: "We've known each other for so long now that we write something [and] it all fits. We all fit together, it's like a family." 'Hell in High Heels' is launched on 6 June at the Chameleon Cafe, next door to the Bell Inn.
Help playing audio/video Feature from Jan 2008Emma, Natalie and Colette have been a permanent fixture on the Nottingham live music scene for the past four years. Lead singer Emma explains how they got together. "I met Nat through an advert in Fox's Music. It was the greatest advert I'd ever seen. It was an essay written in crayon. "It said it didn't matter how rubbish you were, I thought, god, that's me!" The Smears' first gig was at a wedding reception at a pub in Derby and Emma says at that point, they'd never even plugged in amps. Watch The Smears perform Pink Pop (Ain't It Nice): After going through three drummers, Emma and Nat was told of Colette, who had just left a band. Emma and Natalie from The Smears Colette had said that a new band would look for her and, fatefully, Emma called her the next day. Colette's debut ended with her being sick on Nat's shoes. Recently, Nat gave birth to a boy who she named Marley. She says: "I carried on two weeks before I had my son, which was fun on stage. Fat as you like!" Marley appears to be a big fan, Nat says: "When [Marley's] upset I'll play one of the songs we recorded before he was born. He looks around going 'I know this one' and he calms down straight away."
