Lords were formed in 2003, bringing together a trio of musicians who'd already made an impact in other bands.

But in 2008, and with the release of their second CD, Everyone Is People, Lords are a stretched affair.

Only guitarist Chris Summerlin remains in Nottingham.

"Things have changed dramatically (in terms of geography)," says Chris.

"Our drummer (Elvis Wallace) lives in Ireland and Phil (Welding) our singer / guitarist lives in Yorkshire. It's absolutely impossible (getting everybody together)."

Growing up

The release of the second CD hasn't been easy. The follow up to their debut, This Ain't A Hate Thing, It's A Love Thing, was actually completed in the summer of 2007. But, according to Chris, lots of "adult" things happened to hamper its release.

"It isn't any of our first priorities. We're not kids anymore. We've a lot of other things to think about. We had to be quite serious for a while."

We're talking broken relationships, career moves, finance and knee injuries.

Carry on

Despite the long distance difficulties Chris insists Lords will carry on. He says the dynamic of the band has shifted with singer Phil taking the lead since Chris and Elvis both have other musical interests.

"Phil only does Lords so he works hard on stuff. He's constantly got things to work on. There's about 10 songs we're working on. We've got a third (CD) in us at least."

In terms of touring, that revolves around school holidays since Phil is a teacher.

Always on my mind

Although he has ties with other bands and enjoys solo work under the guise of Last of the Real Hardmen, Chris Summerlin says his thoughts are never far from Lords.

"Some part of my everyday life includes that band. I think about it all the time but we're not in a position where we could drop everything to concentrate on the band. It's nice. We don't feel pressured."

That said, if ZZ Top or AC/DC offered Lords a support slot on tour, they might reconsider.
