Libby Purves presents this week's edition of the Learning Curve.
EDUCATION UPDATE
Libby is joined by education expert, Mike Baker, who gives a round up of current education stories: including the issues of testing, and diplomas.

STUDENTS
Today we focus on students; and on a particular scandal over those who finish paying off their debt but find the government still taking hundreds of pounds off them, month after month, because the system is so clunky.

STUDENT LOANS
Jo Bostock
, who works for Radio Leicester, tells the story of overpaying on her student loan. She’s recently paid off her loan – but because she wasn’t aware she’d finished paying six months more instalments were deducted from her pay packet – leaving her in the red by about £700.
Libby Purves interviews Ralph Seymour-Jackson, Chief Executive of the Student Loans Company. They discuss the current system and how students can avoid overpaying.

NUS
Libby Purves speaks to Wes Streeting, new President Elect of the National Union of Students, who’ll take over from the outgoing president, Gemma Tumelty, in July. They discuss current issues facing students – including student loans, tuition fees, and the problem students face in trying to juggle work with studying.

STUDENT GEMS
Student Gems is a new website designed to create an employment market that matches student skills against the demand for one-off jobs from businesses or individuals. It gives students a chance to utilise their skills, showcase their talents and gain valuable commercial experience.
Libby Purves discusses the service with co-founder, Sue Harrison.
Interviews with Sarah Ward, an interior designer who has used the service, and graphic design student, Chris Firth, who worked with Sarah on a new wallpaper range.
