Liz BarclayÌýpresents this week's edition of the Learning Curve

THE BIG DRAW
The Big Draw, The Campaign for Drawing's annual showpiece, is a nationwide, inclusive celebration of drawing which runs throughout October.ÌýThere'll be events in 1000 locations across the UK - galleries, museums, heritage sites, libraries, village halls, shopping malls and schools will run workshops covering every aspect of drawing: from fashion and garden design to comic book and graffiti art.Ìý The campaign has a simple ambition: to get everyone drawing and prove that drawing can be a public activity as well as a private passion. Reporter Melissa Viney was at the launch of The Big DrawÌýat Somerset House in London. Liz Barclay speaks to Professor Anne Bamford, Director of the Engine Room at Wimbledon College of Art, University of the Arts, London, about the benefits of drawing.

CHILDREN IN CARE & UNIVERSITY
Roughly one in a hundred children who have been in care go on to university - a minute figure compared to the national average of 46%. Just over five years ago the Frank Buttle Trust commissioned a research project to explore the experiences of these young people, a group never previously studied. The results were published earlier this year, followed by the launch of the Frank Buttle Trust Quality Mark for Care Leavers in Higher Education - a quality mark which recognises institutions who go that extra mile to support students who have been in care.
With Liz to discuss the research findings and the quality mark is Gerri McAndrew, Chief Executive of the Frank Buttle Trust; Ivor Frank, a barrister, a trustee of the Frank Buttle Trust, and a care leaver who continued into higher education; and Kevin Matthews, also a care leaver, who has just finished at Southampton university, one of the universities who has been awarded the quality mark.

ETHNICALLY MIXED PRIMARY CLASSESÌý
"Ethnically mixed primary classes are the key to improved social cohesion" - This is a key finding of Economic and Social Research Council funded research into diversity in education carried out by Professor Irene Bruegel and Susie Weller of London South Bank University.
