Libby Purves
Libby Purves presents this week's edition of the Learning Curve
Change in Teacher's day-to-day lives:
It's not a good time for head teachers. At their recent conference, the talk was of excessive workload, stress, pressure, risks of failure, money worries, the threat of Ofsted, demands from government, and difficulties with parents. No wonder the problem of head teacher recruitment is growing. A recent NAHT survey suggests that there could be as many as 1,200 schools without permanent heads in post. Libby interviews Mick Brookes, general secretary of the NAHT

Musical Chairs:
One teacher who's incensed by the latest ministerial musical chairs is Steve McCormack. Libby talks to Steve, who works as a supply maths teacher in secondary schools, and who also writes on education matters for the Independent.Ìý

Student Accommodation:
A new housing act has just come into force which will introduce tougher guidelines for private landlords and universities. Libby talks to Sue Barrell, a Learning Curve listener who wrote to us about her son's experience as a student at Brunel university, Richard Angel, President of the Birmingham Guild of Students and John Socha, Vice Chair of the National Landlords AssociationÌý
