Digital back seat drivers
While many of us rely on our passengers to give us feedback on our driving, (welcome or not!), devices have been developed that it’s claimed can give a driver an impartial score on just how safely they are driving. Simon takes to the road in one of these specially equipped test vehicles with Aidan Rowesome from Greenroad and Dr Lisa Dorn of Cranfield University’s Driving Research Group.

Memory Markets
All the devices we rely on day to day, from mobile phones to televisions, all need memory. The international commodity trading in memory chips has never been more cut-throat. Price fixing, lawsuits and dodgy dealings are all par for the course. Simon talks to David Manners of Electronics Weekly and Click On’s resident technology expert Rupert Goodwins about just how this market works and how in the struggle for supremacy colossal sums are being spent despite all the manufacturers making a loss.

Knife crime and gang violence are never far from the headlines these days. Nick Balneaves visits a Strathclyde Police operation which is using social networking sites to bring the thugs to justice. By using cadets who are much more familiar with the online world of YouTube and Facebook, they trawl the web looking for photos and videos of young people brandishing weapons.

The UK is danger of getting left behind when it comes to having the latest high speed internet connections that will enable the next digital revolution. Simon goes down a London sewer to find out how some businesses are forging ahead with high speed networks as the rest of the industry and regulators debate. Simon is joined by Peter Philips from Ofcom and Malcolm Corbett of Manchester’s Community Broadband Network to discuss the best way forward.
