Scotland's David Carry is the defending champion in the Men's 400m Freestyle but Welsh star David Davies will fancy his chances of improving on his bronze of four years ago.

Scotland's Hannah Miley goes in the Women's 200m Individual Medley and her chances have been boosted by the absence of Australian Olympic champion Stephanie Rice, who is injured and so unable to defend her Commonwealth title. But Australia are traditionally strong in this event – they swept gold, silver and bronze in Melbourne – and they could have a ready-made replacement in teenage swimming sensation Emily Seebohm.

John Inverdale introduces the latest action from Delhi, including India versus Scotland in the women's hockey.

Hosts India await Scotland in their opening match in Pool A – a real test for the Scots in front of thousands of fanatical Indian supporters. Scotland's women came a creditable fifth at the 2006 Commonwealth Games but they could not have asked for a much tougher start, facing a side 10 places above them in the world rankings.

England's netballers begin their Commonwealth campaign against Barbados. England won bronze in Melbourne four years ago and a good start in Delhi will give them valuable momentum in their quest to challenge Australia and New Zealand, the two big guns of the sport.

There's also gymnastics action from the Men's Artistic Team Final. The home nations go for gold with four gymnasts competing for each country. England, Scotland and Wales have all won gymnastics medals at the Commonwealth Games and have more medal chances here at the Indira Ghandi Sport Complex in Delhi, but Canada and Australia pose the strongest threats.

Carol starts to prepare for Billie's birthday homecoming, but is persuaded to take a detour into romance.

When word gets out that the Azakstan Freedom Front (AFF) is searching for a lethal outlawed nerve agent called Paroxocybin, Harry Pearce sends Lucas North to help the Russians stop them, as the tense spy drama continues.

Lucas and FSB officer Viktor Barenshik succeed in destroying the sample, but Lucas is shocked when the AFF members are mercilessly killed by the Russian agents. Back in London, Section D become aware of a member of the AFF, Aibek, who has got away; leading Harry to make the controversial decision to let him run.

Section D soon get intelligence that Aibek is on his way to London in search of a second sample of Paroxocybin held by British scientist Stephen Kirby. As Aibek arrives in the capital he is picked up by the team who realise that Harry's earlier decision could have terrifying consequences for national security. While trying to locate Aibek they are led to Kirkby's office, but it's too late; they find Kirby alone and beaten.

Lucas, Beth and Viktor follow Aibek's trail through London, desperate to get to him before he finds the Paroxocybin. Meanwhile, Viktor's behaviour exposes him as untrustworthy and it's soon clear that he has his own plans for the nerve gas.

With time running out, the team have to work quickly before London becomes victim to a biological weapon that has the potential to wipe out the entire city in hours.

Lizzie Greenwood-Hughes presents highlights of the Equestrian World Games from Kentucky.

Great Britain sent a team that is so full of talent that they could afford to leave 2009 Badminton and Burghley winner Oliver Townend out of the squad. Former world No. 1, Pippa Funnell, is picked for the first time since 2005 and she joins fellow Olympians William Fox-Pitt, Mary King and Tina Cook on the six-strong team, with Piggy French and Nicola Wilson completing the group. Zara Phillips won individual gold for Great Britain on her horse Toytown at the last Games in Germany in 2006.

Hairy Bikers Dave Myers and Simon King join Dave Gorman and Jane Moore to judge more weird and wonderful ideas

Dave Gorman returns as Genius host with more celebrity guests, more audience members and more weird and wonderful ideas.

This week, Jane Moore and the Hairy Bikers join Dave on the panel to judge ideas pitched by the studio audience, and distinguish between the brilliant and the bizarre.

Among the proposals are a magnet-powered car; edible sticky tape to mend broken food; a table-top cow to ensure a never-ending supply of milk; and a colour co-ordinated supermarket for the more organised shopping experience. The judges even put one invention to the test, donning their very own pairs of inflatable underpants in an attempt to decide whether this creation is, or isn't, Genius.

Stevie wakes up in the arms of an unusual stranger, in the latest omnibus edition of the online EastEnders spin-off series.

Meanwhile, Naz tries to avoid confrontation but when she turns up at Sol's rehearsal things go a little pear-shaped, to say the least...

Elsewhere, Stevie resorts to drastic measures to get Naz and Sol together, while a desperate Asher tries his dodgy dealing down the market.

It's a Sunday and Becky and Steve are bored, as the 20-somethings comedy continues.

Their fridge is broken and Becky's parents are coming round to fix it. But Steve's never met them before and he's terrified. When they arrive, he's over-friendly and frankly a bit odd. Matters are only made worse by Dan, who's audibly enjoying himself upstairs with his new girlfriend, Paris. At least, he says she's his girlfriend...

Kwazii, Barnacles and Peso race into action

CBeebies invites children to take the plunge and go on an exciting voyage of discovery through the world's oceans this autumn with the animated adventurers The Octonauts. Splashing onto CBeebies from Monday 4 October, The Octonauts are a new band of heroes who patrol the oceans and have thrilling adventures underwater.

Reporting for deep-sea duty are a tip-top team including the dashing Captain Barnacles Bear; swash-buckling Lieutenant Kwazii Cat; and their fresh-faced Medic Peso Penguin.

Stationed in their impressive home base, The Octopod, The Octonauts are ready to dive into action whenever there is trouble underwater. Using their fleet of aquatic vehicles they rescue sea creatures, explore new underwater worlds and triumphantly save the oceans from danger – all in a day's rather wet work.

"We are delighted to welcome this team of highly trained and courageous heroes to CBeebies," says the channel's controller Kay Benbow. "They are perfectly equipped to take our viewers on a series of thrilling and colourful deep sea adventures – without them even getting wet!"

Captain Barnacles is the heroic leader and strategic thinker of the Octonauts. An expert in piloting ships and subs, he's a bear of action, never fearing to rush in where there's trouble. He's ably assisted by Lieutenant Kwazii – a daredevil pirate cat with a mysterious past – and Medic Peso Penguin, a brave bird with a big heart and extremely fast flippers.

Together with Engineer Tweak Bunny, researcher Dr Shellington Sea Otter, photographer Dashi Dog, Professor Inkling Octopus and an adorable bunch of half-animal, half-vegetable creatures called The Vegimals, this team of aquatic aces keep trouble at bay as they scour the seven seas.

But they couldn't do it without the help of their extraordinary range of striking submersibles. From the technological comfort of the vast mission-planning base, The Octopod, to the speed of the fish first-aid ambulance, Gup-E, the Octonauts are never without a suitable vehicle for a mission. Be it helping out an albino humpback whale with sunburn, exploring a sinister kelp forest, or discovering a new breed of worm in the Midnight Zone, The Octonauts are ideally equipped for every sort of marine emergency.

The Octonauts is based on the richly imaginative books by design team, Meomi. Produced in HD it combines classic team adventure with dazzling CGI animation to transport children to a world they don't normally visit... deep under the ocean.
