Your Story: Cloughs from Near and Far |

I am an American who descends from John Clough who emigrated from London in 1635 to become one of the first English proprietors of Salisbury, Massachusetts. Our John left no hint of his heritage and our attempts of tracking down his parentage since the 1930s has been pretty much to no avail.
In the spring of 2001 we, the John Clough Genealogical Society, found out about Oxford Ancestors, Ltd. (created by Dr. Bryan Sykes) doing DNA analysis to assist with genealogical research. We contacted them straight away.
Since the DNA analysis that assists with genealogical research is based on analyzing the Y-chromosome we had a (living) direct male line descendant of our John Clough analyzed and a (living) direct male line descendant of Sir Richard Clough analyzed.
