Richard Clough hailed from Tudor and Stuart Denbighshire, which has been described as "the powerhouse of Renaissance Wales", and became a remarkable figure in history. A successful and entrepreneurial merchant, Clough was one of many men who had taken advantage of the new opportunities for Welshmen in London after the Act of Union of 1536.
