Yes I agree, I too am looking forward to the Masterchef competition, it never fails to amaze me that such wonderful plates of food appear under such stressful conditions. Just a pity that it is absolutely spoiled by several of those smug, pompous so called food critics in the later stages. I forget all the names, but one has already eaten too many pies, one other needs a good shave & haircut, the one with glasses can be a rude opinionated annoying nasty so & so. Fancy living next door to any of them
They seem to take satisfaction in destroying people in front of millions of viewers because they may not like the taste or presentation of the food served up, I would love to see a plate of food tipped over their heads by a disgruntled contestant to humiliate them instead, in front of millions. Can't they find some critics that can actually be a lot kinder with criticism!!
I know it's from the Professional but MRJr, I miss you...

A week too long.
I got my pots, pans and salivary glands ready

Sounds like Charles Campion, Jay Rayner and William Sitwell to me.
I like Rayner and Campion: Rayner's restaurant column is almost always a good read. Sitwell has very firm views on square plates:
I quite like square plates, they make everything look better... a to wash and store though
The silliness has already started! Don't think we've seen a Salvador Dali' 'tache/ satin jacket/ bow tie/ retro glasses yet... but his food looks yummy
Has Wallace been punched in the face?
The young girl didn't get her meatballs on the plate but she's very pretty so I'm sure Greg and John will put her through to the next round.
Ooops, that should have been
Salvador Dali' 'tache/ satin jacket/ bow tie/ retro glasses comboÌý

Surely not a conspiracy theory already?

Wish that young woman had done when he just went for the high 5.
What was wrong with her balls?
No really, what's the weird excrescence on his face? It's putting me off my dinner...

Pretty girl serves up nothing, pretty girl serves up steak & some tomatoes, pretty girl through???
Pretty girl serves up nothing, pretty girl serves up steak & some tomatoes, pretty girl through???Ìý Yes...those are the rules. Haven't you watched this before?
Nah, she'll go in this round... her menu manages to be both boring and weird at the same time.
Ooooh three past winners - always tough judges
That fillet steak looked to have a faint pulse!

I'm strictly a professionals girl, but this thread is tempting me to switch over from the agony aunts programme.
Let's see if I can get the first prediction right... the men to go through?

She's not that pretty, Cheerio love.
The looks on their faces said it all! Bye Olivia!
Yay
Good start, MasterChef! I think the new 'reinvention' test is going to be the source of endless mirth and amusement...
I agree Another good MasterChef start
The correct two went through, although I wish they wouldn't cook lamb so rare (just my opinion, but I always think lamb should be well cooked)

Yep, the comments are going to be entertaining! Nice to see some former winners as judges back, I remember the lady; Druh (quite fanciable, put a bit of weight on; and Ming the Merciless!

Olivia is just young, she is not particularly pretty.
Why are so many of you so cynical about favouritism for attractive females, I dont think this is so.. They may joke and flirt with them, but judge their dishes as harshly as any one elses, in my opinion.

I completely agree. I'm not sure how this started because I can't remember a single incident that might have genuinely given rise to this particular message-board trope, as well as the one that says that John and Gregg always favour 'exotic' food (aka, anything not British, beige and bland) over other cuisines.
But I have noticed that the exponents of these two beliefs are usually the same people

I agree. It's strange how these thigs become "true" by repetition, isn't it?
Anyway, I liked Tony and his 'tach, glad he went through.

She got through to the next round without serving any food in one task apart from some well seasoned salad and a steak and well seasoned tomatoes in the next. John and Greg both got to spend the rest of the episode with her. Not that I'm suggesting in any way anything untoward happened or they had any intensions of anything untoward happening, after all John is very happy with a former masterchef contestant and Greg's has a girlfriend in her early 20's.

Yes, really happy to see John and Gregg back on TV with the best cooking show on TV IMHO. The US may have Gordon Ramsay and 2 cronies but he cannot hold a candle IMHO to the orginal from the Â鶹Éç.
The American version is backstabbing and three judges who love to bash the contestants whereas this show, the best Masterchef show out there is positive when possible, critical when needed but never offensive and the contestants do the show for the love of cooking and support one another. Something I cannot say for the one from the US.
So please keep on making the best cooking show on TV and I will keep watching it with immense pleasure.
I was pleased to note that the bgm has been turned down a lot...Its now much more like the levels of bgm on Irish Masterchef.
Much more enjoyable.

IMO, the Aussie version is really good too. The judges & contestants are generally upbeat & supportive. Not seen the American vesion - is it shown on any UK channel please?
The New Zealand version has just finished - not a patch on UK, Aus or even Ireland (that balding judge is plain rude at times) but have you seen the South African one? O M G. The standard is so low that it is embarassing (my friend has an SA flatmate who cringes at it) but it is entertaining & the judges are really odd.
Still love our version though & look forward to it & the Professionals versions every year although I still think a 3rd judge (as in the Aus version) would be good.

I just noticed that tonight's and tomorrow's episodes are on not at 9pm but 7.30 Ìý That's kind of why I usually end up watching only a few of the early shows and then the final final. The successive evenings is bad enough, but different times to is just annoying.
