Who Says Pop And Politics Can't Mix?

I doubt anyone is going to mind this clip being borrowed from The X-Factor, seeing as it is their song, and therefore to even mention it is effectively giving them free publicity even though they are on a rival nework to the Â鶹Éç and...hang on! Do you think that was part of the plan?

Here we see, as I'm sure you know (or will come to realise after Sunday), the 12 finalists on the X Factor performing a version of 'Hero' by Mariah Carey, to benefit British troops who have been wounded. As a result of this (the second bit, not the first), there is literally nothing funny to be said about this song whatsoever.

*dramatic pause*

Luckily, Paris Hilton has stepped forward to fill this void, and has therefore done, for the first time in her life, something useful. Here she is, taking up the mantle of such rockin' politicos as Bob Dylan, the Clash, Bob Marley, Public Enemy and him out of Reverend & The Makers, and making a song about the state of American politics.

You might want to read that paragraph again. It's all true too. Ask , who ran this a few days back..

And it's hilarious. Although possibly not for the reasons Paris would hope that we think it is hilarious.

Hell, I'm not even going to point out what these reasons are, except to say that if you're going to sing a song jokily calling yourself the "Commander In Bikini", you should probably be wearing a bikini at that point in your song, otherwise it doesn't really make sense.

Wait, did I just expect SENSE from a Paris Hilton video? Hoo boy, I need a holiday...

x factor charity single- and then a cash cow comes along

FIRST THINGS FIRST. THE CHARITY POPPY APPEAL AND HELP THE HEROES ARE 2 GREAT CHARITYS AND I WILL NOT KNOCK THEM AFTER WHAT OUT WAR HEROES WENT THRU / ARE GOING THRU
i donate to the poppy appeal every year as everyone should - it's the least we can do but it ANGERS ME that simon cowell can come along and milk this charity for his own personal gain, lining his vault safe with even more money in the process.

such a touching song that HERO song (i will admit to liking the mariah carey version - no honnest - i do like it)

Everytime the song is played on the radio - Mr C will earn more money - not the charity!
everytime someone buys a copy of the single - Mr C will take a bigger cut than the charity will eventually recieve!
You see it's only a few pence from the cd single sale that gets donated to the charity (the performers waive their rights to their share of the royalties - which if you read the back of the cd cover will tell you it's only a few pence from your £3.99 disk)
So where does the rest of the money go to? (Can someone investigate propper?)
half will go to the retailer selling the disk (Have you noticed how every shop that stopped selling cd singles are actually stocking this disk!)
then a small percentage is kept back to cover production costs (art-work and cd packaging) and to re-invest in future artists (Leon Jackson and shane wards careers are safe for another album then!!!) Take out the writers royalties and Mr C's share of the sale for sitting on his sun lounger in the caribbean made from re-cycled bank statements which allows him to dream up silly cash making schemes which the british public will foolishly buy in to. thus leaving only a few pence for the charity.(the performers royalty right)

so is it right that Mr C can become even richer by doing this?
why not give your money to the charity direct where your money will be handled by volenteers not record company executives. afterall the cover version is not a great version. for a start there are only a few people on it that can carry the song (ruth and maybe alexandra) there are too many week singers contributing towards this song - it's supposed to be a power ballad but their voices aren't strong enough to do the song justice (owen... well basicly the lads in Mr c's catogary)
and then there are thoes great singers (Diana, laura, JSL) whos vocal styles don't suit this type of song in the first place (Can you imagine Winehouse singing Abbas 'i have a dream' or Dido doing 'love machine' (girls aloud) It doesn't work (Fine example Leon Jackson (last years X factor winner) loved to sing modern jazz like his idol Jamie Cullum - 12 months down the line Mr C has given him power ballads - well this lads voice ain't suited or strong enough to power ballads. when he performed his new song on x factor show - you could see in his eyes that his heart wasn't in the song and you could hear his live vocal isn't strong enough - sure he sounds great on the cd or over the radio but you can do wonders in the recording studio) I digress.
back to the song. does anyone else find it irritating that everytime a new singer takes a line of the song we have to have a key-change. keychanges are great for a final chorus but when used in verse (or every verse) it's really bad. is this a sign of poor quality singers or a really bad record producer? how many key-changes were there in the band aid single?

anyway - it's late and i have things to do so please - PLEASE british public - don't be mugs by falling for Mr c's charming ways - unless of course he actually lays a wreath for rememberance sunday to remember or war heroes.
GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THE CHARITY DIRECT
    WEAR YOUR POPPY WITH PRIDE
