Kardinal Offishall ft. Akon - 'Dangerous'
For a man who tends to sing variations on the same five-note melody on everything he does, Akon is on a surprisingly huge list of other people's records. So many, in fact, that there are two songs out next week which feature his reedy tones. This one and the latest by Shaggy, which is called 'What's Love'. Both out at the same time, both feature Akon very heavily, both in competition with the other Akon-affiliated songs which are around at the moment, and no-one seems to mind.
But we're not here to talk about squeaky old Akon, are we? Even if he does represent about 65% of all the vocalising contained within this song. His isn't the face on the packaging after all. That would be Kardinal Offishall (of the province of Dyslexia, presumably).
Incidentally, does it still count as 'packaging' if it's just a picture that comes up on your mp3 player when you're listening to a download? I mean there's nothing there to package, and that nothing comes wrapped up in even more nothing. It is surely additional photography, at best, rather than a protective wrapper to keep the product safe.
OK, so, back to the song. You've got to love a rapper who can sell a line like "she give a new definition to the word 'curves', got chicks in the strip club envying hers" without coming across like some drooling perv. And the good Kardinall makes a decent fist of it, although perhaps not quite enough to really clear the perv hurdle.
So in a way, it's lucky Akon is there to help him over. He also provides a useful point of comparison, being something of a drooling perv himself.
Wait, that's it! Akon's job is to out-perv the rappers he works with, so they look subtle and charming in comparison!
Wow...he's got his work cut out doing that with SHAGGY then...
