1 crogan 397g bainne milis (bainne condensed)
Làn tomhas dhen aon chrogan de bhainne liath (397g)
1 ¼ punnd siùcar
2 unns ìm
1 spàin-tì brìgh vanilla

Cuir am bainne milis ann am pana mòr. Cleachd an crogan anns an robh am bainne milis an uair sin mar thomhas son a' bhainne àbhaisteach. Cuir làn chrogan dhe an ceann a' phana.

GRANNIE'S TABLET

1 small 397g tin condensed milk
A condensed milk tinful (397g) of fresh full fat milk
1 ¼ lbs sugar
2oz butter
1 tsp vanilla essence

Put the condensed milk into a large pan. Using the condensed milk tin as a measure pour a tinful of normal milk into the pan.
Next add the sugar and butter.
Put the pan on the heat and bring gently to a boil whilst stirring continuously.
Boil the mixture very slowly for about 20 minutes and stir continually in case it catches on the bottom of the pan. It should turn a dark caramel colour.
To check if the tablet is ready you can try a teaspoonful of it in cup of cold water. It should harden in the water.
Remove from the heat and add the vanilla essence. Now beat this mixture firmly until it turns sugary and almost dry and hard. This will take at least 5 minutes.
Pour into a lined tin and leave to cool and set completely before cutting into squares.
