Concert Information
Celebrate International Women’s Day 2016 – a global day recognising the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of woman – with the Â鶹Éç Symphony Orchestra and Â鶹Éç Singers at Maida Vale Studios in this special concert devoted to the orchestral and choral a capella music of some of the world’s leading female composers.
Oboist Emily Pailthorpe is the soloist in Thea Musgrave’s virtuosic Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra ‘Helios’, depicting the circular movements of ancient Greek god of the sun: Helios, and both the Â鶹Éç Singers and Â鶹Éç Symphony Orchestra join forces in Judith Weir’s climatic piece for orchestra and chorus ‘Moon and Star’ – a portrayal of the vastness of space, with words by nineteenth century poet Emily Dickinson.
This concert will be broadcast live on Â鶹Éç Radio 3.
Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that as not everyone who asks for tickets uses them, to make sure we have a full house we send out more tickets than there are places. We do our best to get the numbers right, but unfortunately we occasionally have to disappoint people so please arrive early.
