London Spirit and Oval Invincibles played out a thrilling tie in The Hundred women's competition at Lord's.

Having taken 4-11 in the Spirit innings, Marizanne Kapp (47) looked set to guide Invincibles to a comfortable victory, with the visiting side needing just four runs from their final nine balls.

But Deepti Sharma bowled the South African all-rounder and the Spirit delivered five successive dot balls to put themselves back in contention.

Ryana Macdonald-Gay scooped Danni Gibson for two but was run out from the final ball of the innings as the Spirit pulled off an unlikely result.

Having been put into bat, Spirit found themselves reduced to 47-5 at halfway, with their top five - including Meg Lanning and Heather Knight - all bowled, four of them by Kapp.

India international Sharma (44) dragged the Spirit score towards respectability, before becoming the first of three wickets in the final six balls of the innings as the hosts finished on 113-9.

Invincibles lost Chamari Athapaththu and captain Lauren Winfield-Hill cheaply in their reply, but Kapp and Alice Capsey put on 54 for the third wicket to put their side in control.

Sharma bowled Capsey, sparking a mini collapse as Invincibles lost 4-13, but Kapp looked set to bring her side home before the India international returned to spark a remarkable end to the London derby.

What else do you need to know?

  • There were no ties in the first three years of the competition, but this is the second in the women's Hundred in the space of a week, after Southern Brave drew with Northern Superchargers on Tuesday.
  • Bails were rattled at Lord's, with 11 batters bowled out - including eight of the nine Spirit wickets, and all of their top seven.
  • Sarah Glenn was the only Spirit batter out caught, the first of two wickets in successive balls for 19-year-old Invincibles spinner Sophia Smale. Tara Norris survived the hat-trick delivery - the final ball of the innings.

Invincibles all-rounder Marizanne Kapp: "It was good up until I got out and it cost us the game. Just very disappointed.

"I love bowling here, love playing here. Unfortunately couldn't get the win today but still proud of the girls.

"The plan is always to land the ball on the seam, I get a lot of movement. I haven't felt that the first few games, but I feel my rhythm coming back."
