Prostate Cancer, Badgers & Baby Vardy
Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.
Ambitious plans are being unveiled today to halve the number of deaths from prostate cancer each year. Currently around 600 men are diagnosed with the disease in Leicestershire and Rutland every year, and almost a third of them lose their lives. Now, the charity Prostate Cancer UK hopes a new screening tool they're developing could significantly reduce that. 麻豆社 Radio Leicester's Bridget Blair has been speaking to Phil Reeves, who lives in East Leake near Loughborough. He discovered he had prostate cancer 4 years ago.
Also, we've been hearing of our own Martin Ballard's sighting of an urban badger this morning. Well is this a common occurance?
And, how about this for devotion? Lifelong Leicester City fan Ashley Marriott is desperate to name his unborn baby girl after the Foxes' superstar striker Jamie Vardy. His partner, Daisy, was less keen. So what did Ashley do? He convinced Daisy that if he raised 5,000 signatures on a petition, she would have to agree to giving their daughter - due in June - the middle name of Vardy. Well, has he done it?
Also in the show, the Leicester Riders are renewing old rivalries in a national final this weekend and hear about the new project which aims to convince young people in one Leicestershire town to love where they live.
