How modern classical music got its groove back

Intercut with a specially shot performance of Steve Reich's 'Drumming' performed by So Percussion, Guardian music critic Tom Service and composer Steve Reich talk about the advent of minimalism in the 1960s.

Reich explains how he rejected the straitjacket of 12-tone serial composition, to return the orders of harmony and steady pulsation to classical music - and as a result reaching wider audiences than modern music had done for many decades.
