When Fascism first emerged in Germany, composers felt it might support the arts and modernist music. Intercut with archive footage of Hitler and Mussolini, conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, composer George Benjamin and Gillian Moore from the Southbank Centre discuss how Modernist composers hoped the regime would finance their work but instead faced censorship and, even more, their lives.
