A Joyous Exploration: Space Travel, Estonian Folk and Saunas

Cerys chats to Major Tim Peake on the history and future of space travel, inspiring a moon-themed selection. Plus Estonian musician Mari Kalkun shares V玫ru traditions.

Cerys handpicks you an eclectic Sunday selection from her record collection, featuring new discoveries, classics and rarely heard gems. This week her guests are Major Tim Peake and Mari Kalkun.

Major Tim Peake chats to Cerys about the history and future of space travel, inspiring a moon themed selection of songs. In 2015 Tim launched into space, he was the first British ESA astronaut to visit the International Space Station. and conduct a spacewalk during his six month mission. His latest book Space: The Human Story comes at a time when NASA plans to send four astronauts to orbit the moon in Artemis II.

Joining Cerys live from a snow Estonia is Estonian musician Mari Kalkun, her creations draw inspiration from ancient Estonian and V玫ru traditions, played on a variety of instruments including kannel, piano and drones. Plus director Anna Hints of the Sundance award-winning documentary Smoke Sauna Sisterhood shares sounds and her inspirations behind the film.

Expect to hear listeners favourite words mixed alongside new music from Bonnie Prince Billy, Eda Diaz and Theo Bard with classics from Etta James, Ohio Express and Johnny Wells.
