A Joyous Exploration of Sound with Dr Susan Rogers
Cerys curates an eclectic Sunday selection and chats to Prince's chief engineer turned doctor of cognitive neuroscience Susan Rogers about her book, This is What it Sounds Like.
Cerys curates an eclectic Sunday selection from her record collection of new discoveries, classics and hidden gems.
This week Cerys' guest is Prince's chief engineer turned Dr of cognitive neuroscience, Susan Rogers, who tells us about her book This Is What It Sounds Like: What the Music You Love Says About You. As one of the most successful female sound engineer and multi-platinum record producers, Susan worked on Prince's albums between 1983 and 1988 which include Purple Rain and Sign O' The Times. She has also worked with David Byrne and Barenaked Ladies. Now Susan is a Professor of Music Cognition at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Cerys welcomes Columbian salsa legend Fruko to the studio Columbian with pianist Ivan Guevara and British cellist and conductor Graham Walker. Together hey are members of Classico Latino, a ten piece band which blends classical and latino music. Ivan and Graham met whilst studying at Cambridge University and enjoy the challenges of learning new rhythms and blending genres, cultures and styles.
After the news of Shane MacGowan's passing this week, Cerys pays tribute to the Pogues singer, recalling the time she sang at his birthday party and delves into the Â鶹Éç Archive to hear Shane talking on how Irish culture lead to the band's formation. Plus we learn about Teesdale's special flora with botanist Dr Margaret Bradshaw.
