Oscar and Grammy award winner Jennifer Hudson shares her memories of Aretha Franklin. Jennifer plays the queen of soul in the upcoming biopic Respect, having been picked by Aretha herself to star in the lead role. Jennifer recalls her earliest encounter with Aretha's music as a child, singing Aretha's songs at American Idol auditions, through to opening for her shows and becoming friends with Aretha.

Cerys welcomes Caroline Bird to The Poet Tree, discussing her writing influences and inspirations. Caroline was nominated by previous Poet Tree guest Rachel Long who described Caroline as a "genius".

Caroline Bird is a poet and playwright, whose collection Looking Through Letterboxes was first published in 2002 when Caroline was aged 15. Caroline grew up in Leeds and in 2012, she was an official poet at the London Olympics. She has published a total of six poetry collections including her 2017 publication In These Days of Prohibition which was nominated for the Ted Hughes Award. More recently, In 2020 Caroline published The Air Year and won The Forward Prize for best poetry collection. She also starting writing plays as a teenager and in 2013, Caroline was short-listed for Most Promising New Playwright at the Off-West-End Awards.
