Episode 6

Joining Jools is Paul Weller, trio Alt-J, rapper Dave, electro-pop trio Little Dragon, singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers and a cappella septet Naturally 7.

Joining Jools in his music circle is the Modfather himself, Paul Weller, fresh from his spring UK tour and continuing his hot creative streak with 13th solo album A Kind Revolution, which mixes classic Weller ballads and some stomping rockers in a questing, joyful blend. English electro-rock trio Alt-J return with songs from their upcoming third album Relaxer, which sees the band deliver more of their classic rich folk-tronic interwoven melodies, rhythms and falsetto harmonies.

Making his debut is much touted south London rapper and accomplished pianist Dave, whose mix of African, Jamaican and grime beats with emotional words about love, panic attacks and his family's everyday struggles is already winning him fans in high places. A welcome return too for Sweden's magical electro-pop trio Little Dragon, whose recent album Season High was produced by James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco and was launched at Coachella after a three-year lay-off. They manage to sound psychedelic, funky and poptastic all at once, with frontwoman Yukimi Nagano continuing to rival Bjork with her fashion sense, beguiling vocals and stagecraft.

Introducing Maryland singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers, whose songwriting skills were discovered and championed by no less than Pharrell when she played him her signature song Alaska, which shows her combining her folk and bluegrass roots with electronica and some otherworldly dance moves. The stunning vocal skills and arrangements of a cappella septet Naturally 7, who formed in New York in 1999 and practise the art of 'vocal play' - using the human voice to create a multi-layered sound that combines rich harmonies and beatboxing - have gained them fans in both India Arie and the Paris Metro system, among others.
