Episode 7
Joining Jools on the penultimate show of the 50th series are Sheryl Crow, Lorde, Oumou Sangare, Pumarosa, Aldous Harding, Jane Birkin and Stefflon Don.
Joining Jools on the penultimate show of the 50th series is US singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow, who returns with songs from her latest album Be Myself, a collection of songs she has described as a return to the sound of her Tuesday Night Music Club debut, and sees her reunite with Jeff Trott, her co-writer and co-producer on the new album, for a bunch of uplifting rock 'n' roll tunes.
From New Zealand, global pop superstar Lorde returns following her debut as a 16-year-old on the show back in 2013. She went on to have global success with her debut album Pure Heroine and now returns with songs from her much-anticipated second LP Melodrama. From Mali, Grammy Award-winning singing superstar Oumou Sangare is in the studio to perform a song or two from Mogoya, her first album in five years. Musical royalty in her homeland, Oumou celebrates the sound of traditional African instruments, such as the calabash and kamele n'goni harp, along with more contemporary electric guitars and synths, and completes her unique sound with formidable vocals and fearless messages.
Making their debut on the show are east London five-piece Pumarosa, led by compelling frontwoman Isabel Munoz-Newsome, whose dramatic psych-rock harks back to Juju-era Siouxsie & The Banshees with an added dance groove.
Also, introducing a second artist from New Zealand, mysterious singer-songwriter Aldous Harding, whose intense performances suggest a woman in touch with her nerve ends. She performs Horizon from her second album Party. Joining Jools at the piano for a chat is English emigree Jane Birkin, who scored a massive Number 1 back in 1969 with husband Serge Gainsbourg with Je t'aime... and is releasing her first album in nine years tackling the songs of Serge with a 90-piece orchestra.
Plus Birmingham-born rising MC and rapper Stefflon Don, whose fiery brand of dancehall-infused hip-hop is big and bossy and influenced by the likes of Lil Kim, Foxy Brown and Missy Elliott.
