Step On Up

Episode 31 of 52

Medical drama series. Elizabeth is brought up short by the arrival of her gravely ill grandmother. She gets drawn back into the web of dark secrets that map out her past.

Elizabeth tries to remain level-headed when her grandmother turns up unexpectedly, gravely ill. The grandmother treats her harshly, blaming her for walking out on the family at 16. Dutifully, Elizabeth looks after her grandmother, who dies on the operating table, leaving the young nurse bereft. She admits to Ric that her mother used to hit her.

Sacha has to step up to the plate when he is moved to AAU. Using ''patient through-put'' as his mantra, he puts people's noses out of joint with his officious management style. He learns that he doesn't have to change to adapt to life on AAU, and can still be himself.

Jac is hoisted by her own petard when she tries to get one over on Sunil by bumping his patient for one of her electives. She finds out that her patient has romantically fallen for Sunil's. The patient refuses the operation, and chivalrously offers his space up for his new love. Jac is left thwarted, but Elliot reassures her that there is more than one way to skin a cat.
