A season of Remembrance

麻豆社 Radio 2

Highlights include coverage of the Festival of Remembrance from the Royal Albert Hall. The following day there is also special coverage to mark Remembrance in Good Morning Sunday with Aled Jones.

Private Peaceful (Friday 7, 14, 21, 28 November)

As part of its Remembrance programming, Radio 2 offers listeners another chance to hear Robson Green read an abridgement of Michael Morpurgo's powerful book Private Peaceful - a tale of brotherly love set during the horrors of the First World War.

Over four weeks Green reads this tragic, surprising and absorbing novel that charts both the childhood of Thomas Peaceful in the early years of the 20th century and his eventual enlistment in the British army to help fight the First World War.

Festival Of Remembrance (Saturday 8 November)

Chris Stuart presents highlights from the annual Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at London's Royal Albert Hall.

Good Morning Sunday (Sunday 9 November)

Aled Jones marks Remembrance Sunday, 90 years after the Armistice Agreement was signed between the Allied and German armies.

His special guest is Terry Deary, the children's author behind the Horrid Histories series of books. This year, the Imperial War Museum North is staging a family exhibition which sets Terry's words and artist Martin Brown's visuals alongside the museum's collections, to tell stories of the men and women, servicemen and civilians, who shaped and endured the First World War.

Sunday Half Hour (Sunday 9 November)

Brian D'Arcy continues Radio 2's Remembrance programming with a selection of hymns to commemorate the fallen. Music includes The Day Thou Gavest, I Vow To Thee My Country and Jerusalem The Golden.

The choir from Royal Holloway University in London is directed by Rupert Gough and the organist is Alexander Norman.
