Epping Forest
Your Story: Dick Turpin and Epping Forest

Born at Hempstead in Essex in 1706, Turpin served an apprenticeship with a butcher in Whitechapel in the East End of London. However, he soon turned to a life of crime and became notorious for robbery, terror and murder. Much of his career as a highwayman was spent in Essex as a member of the Gregory Gang who used Epping Forest as a place for deer stealing and robbery, raiding isolated farmhouses in adjoining villages. "hello my name is lianne danielle gregory there has been a story passed down in our family that our ancestors rode with dick turpin THE GREGORYS and i am one of the gregorys now. nobody in the family new weather to beleive that this story that had beed passed down in our family for many many years was true or not but after quite alot of research we were amazed to find that the story that had been passed down in the family was true. For a few nights now we have been watching most haunted live on living tv and it was all about that famous man dick turpin and as a family watching it we were amazed to hear derek acorah mention our ansestors. As a family we were happy and amzed to hear of this and to hear what our ancestors really did get up to and what they were like. "
