The Machair is a carpet of flowers

Uist is one of the British Isles' greatest and most remote wilderness locations.

The Hebridean machair is the last stronghold of birds like the Corncrake. Twite, Dunlin, Redshank and Ringed Plover. The machair land is also home to rare carpet flowers, such as Irish Lady's Tresses, Orchids, and Yellow Rattle.

At Herdship Farm in upper Teesdale, livestock takes a back seat and wildlife comes to the fore.

South Downs

Grasslands are great examples of how man and nature can work together. They are 'managed' landscapes.

"The British Isles is a landscape of natural pasture. These habitats are really some of the most exciting and colourful in the UK. The variation in habitats is astounding and these are amazing places to see nature in her bounty... Get out there and see where the real action is."
