Grasslands | North Uist

Uist map

North Uist in the Western Isles is just an hour's flight from Glasgow - and a place you can visit to get one of the best grassland experiences in Britain. Turquoise seas, golden sandy beaches - and an absolute riot of colour - yellows, pinks and purple as far as the eye can see. The coastal grassland is called the Machair - a Gaelic word which means extensive, low lying fertile plain. At the height of summer it is a wildflower extravaganza beyond excellence - in the spring come here for the birds life.
