麻豆社 Young Musician Activities

Join us in a day of free activities at the Barbican to celebrate the 麻豆社 Young Musician Finals on 15 May 2016. There are three separate activities from 11.30-13.30 for young jazz musicians and string players to get involved in, listed below. All participants will also be invited to a welcome Q&A from 11.00-11.30 with 麻豆社 Young Musician Alumni.
1. Build a Big Band with Clare Teal and Guy Barker
Build a big band with jazz vocalist Clare Teal (麻豆社 Young Jazz judge) and composer, trumpeter, arranger and band leader Guy Barker and prepare for an interval performance on the Barbican Club Stage alongside professional big band players. Open to jazz musicians aged 17-25 who have reached Grade 7 (or equivalent) or above on one of the below instruments:
Trumpet
Trombone (including bass trombone)
Alto saxophone
Tenor saxophone
Baritone saxophone
2. Violin Session with Jennifer Pike.
Experience a string masterclass led by Jennifer Pike (麻豆社 Young Musician 2002 Winner). Jennifer will be working with three young violinists on their set pieces. Bring along any questions you may have! Open to 12-18 year olds.
3. Cello Session with Guy Johnston
Experience a Cello Masterclass with Guy Johnston (麻豆社 Young Musician 2000 winner). Guy will be working with three young cellists on their set pieces. Bring along any questions you may have! Open to 12-18 year olds.
To book, please select which of the three sessions you鈥檇 like to take part in from the drop-down list. When filling in the booking form, please specify both your instrument and the grade (or equivalent grade) you have reached. If you are booking for Build a Big Band, please be aware that this session will involve a sound check in the afternoon as well as an evening performance, so participants will need to be available from 11.00-c.19.00.
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
