Man Without Country: Radio One's Introducing Band of the Week

This week's session for Radio One is very exciting, as it's a band who many are talking about right now, and a band who may just be the next wave of artists from Wales to branch out, reach out and spread their music far and wide.
I was promoting a gig recently and over a few cocktails at the bar the
band mentioned that a couple of 'execs' had come to see them, and
things were looking promising. Little did I expect it to lead to the
inking of a special deal.

Man Without Country. Tell me about the band name.
There are a few books named Man Without A Country. But our interpretation comes from the sense of not belonging.
Who are you, and where are you from?
Ryan Owen - 23 from Bridgend
Tomas Greenhalf - 23 from Mynyddygarreg
Gareth Price - 25, from Hong Kong
What instruments do you play in the band? And you use a lot of effects pedals on stage - what are they?
Ryan Owen - Guitar, vox.Ìý Lots of different reverb, delay pedals - but I can't give away the specific formula!
Tomas Greenhalf - Synthesizer, sampler, all things electronic
Gareth Price - Drums, sample pad
You've signed a publishing deal. Tell me more: who's it with, and does this work now in your favour?
Yes, we signed a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell, which has given us the time and freedom to work full-time on our music.
What brought you together?
We first met in university studying music. The three of us had similar influences and aspirations of starting a fresh musical project. After playing together for three years developing and tweaking our sound we now feel we have something unique that we are ready to share with an audience.
What's on the cards for 2010?
Writing, writing, writing! We are planning to release a single towards the end of year, and we're playing selected gigs/festivals around the south west.
Are you organising a tour?
We're concentrating on writing new material this year. Hitting 2011 hard with gigs and tours!
There seems to be a new crop of Cardiff bands that are quite exciting, like Hunters that you've played with few times. Who else, would you say?
Exit International, Hyener and Among Brothers are definitely ones to check out.
What are you musical influences?
There are a wide range of influences from obscure electronic music to formulaic pop music to experimental ambient music.
What about non-musical influences?
People we have met, whether it be a positive or negative influence, the popular media and technology.
What's been your band career highlight so far?
Signing the publishing deal with Warner/Chappell.
