A plea from Tom Robinson!
There's so much stuff happening between Wednesday and Saturday next week (1600 acts in 4 days - how does that work?) that my own blogging plan is to stick strictly to my "Introducing" remit - and focus on artists from under the radar, rather than bands being tipped as The Next Big Thing. I can then feature the usual couple of dozen in my Â鶹Éç Introducing show on 6 Music on the final Saturday night. Unfortunately we won't have a live link, so I'm going to need to prerecord that show at the end of this week before we leave for Texas.
There's a of all acts appearing in Austin next week on the official site. So if you have time to glance through and recommend any interesting, non-famous acts that you spot on that list between now and Thursday afternoon, it'd be great to hear of them here...
Hi Tom
I guess you fit in my group.
I will look at this topic in my panel on March 8 during South by Southwest Interactive.
Will you be there only for the music part?
Bonne journee

Hello Tom
Complain about this postIf you are looking for 'under the radar' then you should check out the Fused Magazine Showcase at The Tap Room at Six (117 W 4th St) on the 12th March.
The showcase features 5 bands coming out of Birmingham - Swampmeat / Deluka / The Big Bang / Trash Fashion (now based in London) / Copter.
There is more info here - fusedatsxsw.wordpress.com.
Chris Bathgate, whose track Serpentine was featured on Radcilffe and Maconie earlier in the year, is playing at SXSW for 3 shows on Wed 12 Mar, and one on Sat 15 Mar.
Complain about this postDear Tom Robinson, please go see Cadence Weapon. Fanstastic indie hip-hop from the frozen tundra of Canada. thanks.
Complain about this postThanks for this Aaron. If anyone else would like to check him out, here's where you can hear Cadence Weapon
CADENCE WEAPON - in search of the Youth Crew
(Fanstastic indie hip-hop from the frozen tundra of Canada) - can't argue with that. oldskool rhyming over fresh contemporary beats.
for some reason I can't yet see the postings from Kerry, Jeremy Peters, or Serge Lescouarnec on my browser, but I look forward to catching up with them - meantime here's some enormously helpful stuff recommended to me by Cif readers (see website URL on this posting):
THE AKRON FAMILY - Franny You're Human
Weird acoustic odball noodling from Pennsylvania.
BE YOUR OWN PET
A kind of collision between the B-52s and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs who've been lighting up 6 Music's radar since 2004 with 4 minor UK hits. Huge fun, if you don't know them.
SUNBURNED HAND OF THE MAN - Burnie Is Coming
good, but a bit selfconsciously odd & lo-fi
THE MAE SHI - Run To Your Grave
great tune, really fresh: Devo-ish foursquare beats w. farfisa organ.
BLACK MOUNTAIN - Stormy High
(huge slightly proggy riff tastic but with a sense of beauty)
DÄLEK - Eyes To Form Shadows
(Dark Hip-hop poetic and harsh) over appealingly industrial-grade noise.
DEER TICK - Song Of Samuel
(Singer songwriter, americana) 21 yr old John McCauley. Harsh vocal stylist over sweet guitar backing - good contrast
HERMAN DUNE - I wish I could See You Soon
(Catchy blues/folk, sense of fun and self deprecation). Is there such a genre as anti-country? This would be it.
NADJA - Fiend
(Ghostly drones and very dark) Hoarse metal riffing
PISSED JEANS - Ashamed Of My Cum
(Proper angry scuzzy heavy punk). Great MySpace profile too - no friends, no pictures, no info, no comments. And 29,000 plays
SOILED MATRESS & THE SPRINGS - Someone's drinking water
Archly retro sax'n'keyboard instrumentals from NYC - touring UK in May
PS I don't particularly like Mr Murdoch's MySpace, but it's a uniquely useful leveller when comparing artists.
Complain about this postthey will not be playing at sxsw but they are def worth checking out, based in bristol and pushing the boundaries of contemporary sound fusions and only 6months old they are def under the radar at the mo..but deserve to pushed into the stratosphere ... only demos available at the moment on the myspace page...bu t they allegedly have days worth of recordings already...check em out!
