David Jason is to star in a brand new Â鶹Éç One comedy series for the first time in 20 years, since the last full series of Only Fools and Horses.

The Royal Bodyguard sees David play Captain Guy Hubble, a life-long soldier coming up for retirement who has recently been put in charge of Royal security. An ex-guardsman who saw action in Cyprus and Northern Ireland, he sounds perfect for the job.

Unfortunately, he turns out to be the worst possible appointment as he is totally out of his depth. He should never have got the job, having previously worked in the car park at Buckingham Palace, but owing to a terrible misunderstanding, he's been promoted with the Queen's blessing to this important role.

The fate of the Royal Family is in the hands of this walking disaster as he supervises security arrangements for all their engagements.

David Jason says: “I am really looking forward to working with the very talented producer Jimmy Mulville, and working on a great comedy project with the Â鶹Éç. It will be good to have a laugh again!â€

Filming begins in July. Watch this space for more news about the return of a living legend to Â鶹Éç Comedy.

Can't wait? 'Ave a ganders (sigh) at our Only Fools and Horses clips.

Don't forget there's another serving of Only Fools and Horses prequel Rock and Chips on the 28th April.

Read our blog about the moment the old Del Boy met, erm, the boy Del Boy on the set of Rock and Chips.

I am sorry to say that this latest programme involving David Jason, is one of the worst comedy programmes or attempted comedy programmes that I have had the misfortune to watch over the last few years. Whoever thought up this idea and commissioned it for broadcast should think again. The puerile stereotypes just don't work and the writing and dialogue leave a lot to be desired. The Â鶹Éç should be able to do better and in my opinion would be best to consider this as a bad mistake and just cancel the episodes from now on. I'm sure the Â鶹Éç writers could find a far better vehicle for David Jason's talents.

I am a huge David Jason fan, I remember him before he was famous for shows such as "a sharp intake of breath". "only fools and horses" remains my all time favourite. But this programme (the royal bodyguard ) is truly awful. It pains me to say that, as I have much respect for the mans talents, but please Â鶹Éç, take it off now. It's embarrissing to watch. He is not Inspector Clusoe as this character is obviously based on. End it now for David's sake.

What utter drivel!! Can't understand why David Jason would want to be involved in such rubbish. He is a very fine actor and a very funny comedy performer and his talents shoould not be wasted like this. Thank goodness I remembered to put new batteries in the remote control.

Most people know when it's time to go, if David Jason watches the first episode of this he will realise that he missed the boat, pull it Â鶹Éç it's absolute rubbish.
