Good news for all fans of our favourite Irish matriarch from the Â鶹Éç Press Office...

Â鶹Éç One's hit comedy Mrs. Brown's Boys has been recommissioned for a second series by Danny Cohen, Controller, Â鶹Éç One, and Cheryl Taylor, Controller, Comedy Commissioning.

The series was based on the sell-out theatre show which is written by and stars Brendan O'Carroll as Agnes Brown, a Dublin matriarch who just can't resist interfering in the lives of her family and friends.

The cast of the television show features the regular cast of Mrs. Brown's Boys on stage, and includes Brendan's real-life wife Jennifer Gibney as Cathy, his daughter Fiona O'Carroll as Maria, his son Danny O'Carroll as Buster, and his sister Eilish O'Carroll as Winnie McGoogan. Here's Brendan to introduce us to the Brown family.

Responding to the news of the recommission Brendan said: "This is unbelievable! I'm just thrilled that the Â鶹Éç continues to have confidence in the show. The support we have had from all involved from Danny Cohen and Mark Freeland and Â鶹Éç Scotland makes us just so excited to get back there and do it all again. Producer Stephen McCrum promised me that he would be faithful to the stage show and he has gone beyond this in making the show the success it is. I am living the dream."

Cheryl Taylor, Controller, Comedy Commissioning said: "Despite the rarefied language, the warmth of this series and the laugh out loud comedy antics have proved a huge hit with Â鶹Éç One viewers."

Mrs. Brown's proved a big hit online as well as on the small screen. We've loved having her on-hand to answer viewers' questions for #AskMrsBrown throughout the series here on our Comedy Blog.

She's solved many dilemmas including how to hide a moustache and how to come out to your mammy.

Look out next week as Mrs. Brown will be back with a final message for all the mammys in time for Mother's Day.

Mrs. Brown's Boys is a Â鶹Éç Vision Production, co-produced with BOCPIX and RTE. The series is produced by Stephen McCrum & executive produced by Mark Freeland. The series is directed by Ben Kellett. The executive producer for RTE is Justin Healy.

The new series will return to Â鶹Éç One later this year.

More from Mrs. Brown's Boys:

The final episode from the current series of Mrs. Brown's BoysÌýis on Monday 28 March at 10.35pm.

How often do you sit on your own in front of the telly, and laugh 'your head off'? Not very often,- until Mrs Brown hit our screens.
After the first show, my upstairs neighbours asked me what 'on earth' had been going on.. they know I'm on my own and simply couldn't understand how I could laugh so noisily, and for so long.. Needless to say, they are now as noisy as me the last five Monday nights.
A massive thank you to Brendan O'Carroll and The Â鶹Éç for making Monday nights something to look forward to.
Waiting in anticipation for the next onslaught.

    Will you be touring sheffield

'jacci' asked for a Christmas special....how about one centred around Agnes and her dream to dance with C.L.I.F.F.??? Have just re-read 'The Mammy' and think that would be a fantastic one to do, it would have to be re-jigged a little bit as Agnes's family are all grown up now, but I suppose it would be possible?

I'd second all the praise - my wife had started sleeping in the back room on monday nights as i kept waking her up laughing from downstairs!! the bikini wax and the 'riding' at the hen do/wake absolute genius. roll on series 2.

Absolutely brilliant programme, really is the best thing on the Â鶹Éç for years - but why o why isnt any of them available on the iplayer??????

  • Comment number 18.

I needed a good laugh, times are tough and not too many things to laugh at these days. This show, Mrs Brown's Bunch, is perfect! Medicine for most everyone, and laughter is good for the heart. Love the show and characters. Looking forward to seeing all the shows.
    Sincerely in N.B.Canada.

  • Comment number 19.

it would be even better if you made a film on it

  • Comment number 20.

So glad that a second series is on it's way, I haven't laughed so much at comedy on Â鶹Éç for a long time.

  • Comment number 21.

Brendan, you and your family seem to be a wonderful, funny and happy family. The Mrs brown series is the funniest thing I have seen for years, just what the doctor ordered. We go to as many live performances as we can. My friend and I met Rory when you played in Newcastle. My friend is Arthurs' sister. Arthur works at the Troch (I think thats the nickname) restaraunt in Andrews St, Dublin. I hope you have many years making us laugh. It must be a laugh a minute to be in your family and at last, you deserve the luck of the Irish. Keep making us laugh XXXX

  • Comment number 22.

I haven't laughed so much in my life :))))) we want more...we want more :)))))

  • Comment number 23.

i have only seen episode 6 of series 1 and i loved it i hope they make some more

  • Comment number 24.

    When does Series 2 start???

  • Comment number 25.

I am Irish and I feel I have to comment here - I honestly do not know what anyone sees in this truly awful programme. It is garbage of the highest order and is about as funny as a terminal disease. I've watched it several times to try and give it a chance and each time I've actually sat there open mouthed - and not because I'm laughing. It is barrel scraping tripe.

Just watched the christmas special, Mammys ass. As far as I am concerned, this was the BEST programme shown this christmas. At times I had tears rolling down my face. Looking foward to the rest of the new series. Please keep them coming. It is much needed in these grim times, a real tonic. Love it.

  • Comment number 28.

Really is the worst show ever! Awful!! I'm glad it makes others laugh, but I honestly don't get it, but then again I don't get 'Love they Neighbour', Chubby Brown, Bernard Manning or Jim Davidson. I think its a grubby show and everytime I see a trailer, I'm sure a fairy dies!

  • Comment number 29.

macbee31, really, rascist humour ??? It,s clear from your comment that you have never watched the programme, as what you infer is miles off the mark. Carry on with this programme Â鶹Éç, as janice wrote, best thing since only fools and horses. If it makes this lady laugh after her loss, it can only be a good thing.

  • Comment number 30.

My husband was looking through some posts and discovered this show just today. It is extremely funny and I really don't think he's ever laughed so hard. It's a shame they can't come up with programs this funny here in the US. An absolutely wonderful comedian and show. The supporting cast is just as wonderful.

  • Comment number 31.

    Utter moronic drivel

  • Comment number 32.

Mrs brown I have just got into to the best comedy since only fools and horses. And blackadder and just got the box set can you explain what happen to Simon and why Trevor and dermot changed characters

  • Comment number 33.

There are so many brilliant ccomedians, so much sparkling writing talent, so many undiscovered scripts...

And yet THIS gets commissioned and 3 million labotomy patients watch it.

This comedy is so bad, I'm sorely tempted to emigrate. It's not that it's old-fashioned or 'un-PC' or low-brow. These are all things I am perfectly at home with.

It's the fact that the gags are so old, they've been copied off the Rosetta stone. The delivery is cringingly terrible. People call the Office 'embarrasment humour', but at least on that genius show, it was intended.

People might say 'If you don't like it, don't watch it'. But it's my license fee paying for this bilge and it's my wish that something far more deserving fills this slot. If you think this is funny, you have total contempt for comedy as a genre.

I don't like dealing in absolutes, but this show just makes me want to cry for humanity.

  • Comment number 34.

I have to say, after a number of friends told me they enjoyed the show I thought I'd take a look. OMG it is absolutely dire, dreadful, dated, obsolete and completely unfunny.

I cannot think of a single redeeming feature.

As it turns out, the joke really was on me, my friends recommended it to me as they felt that if they'd "wasted 1/2 hour of their lives watching that drivvle" then I ought to do the same!

  • Comment number 35.

If you are really depressed or down Please watch Mrs Browns Boys and you wont be dwn for long, best comedy programe i have watched in a very long time, Keep them coming mrs brown, keep us laughing. Fab.

  • Comment number 36.

People who do not like thes progamme must have had a humour bypass

  • Comment number 37.

Love the new series, got the whole family watching, even the prudes.

  • Comment number 38.
