... making a film to encourage reluctant blokes to go and get checked out for nasties. It's a brilliant place full of brilliant people. The film is due to be on The One Show the first week in April.

Thank you to everyone involved in today's shoot. You are all amazing.

Chaps, I know it scary but if it's not normal get it checked - majority of the time I bet it's nothing!

  • Comment number 2.

Please ignore my appalling grammar! Normally it's miles better!

  • Comment number 3.

    Hello Chris.

Did Marky Mark drive you to St Marks?

Yes CLP blokes should go and get checked out just like a car we should all have an annual MOT.

Actually I'm always mystified as to why blokes are so obviously proud of their bits and pieces but when it comes to medical matters they become shy.

CLP - getting checked out at the earliest is a scary but necessary thing, I hope your film helps people do the right thing.

Cant stop, not really here, so going to catch up anyway if i can dependant on number of posts.

Thinking today of a very special blogger - my pink fizz rose is springing into life this very week.

Debs - I noticed today that my Pink Fizz is showing signs of life for the first time this year too. Karma!

Well done Chris on making a film, to be shown at peak viewing time, aimed at them there fellas. Guys - you only get one lot of crown jewels, so look after them!

And on that note, I've always had a bit of a bugbear that breast screening only starts for women over the age of 55. Breast cancer isn't fussy as to who it strikes, and the disease in younger women is on the increase. Lower the age of mandatory screening I say!

In other news, I watched the Richard Bacon programme this afternoon about internet trolls. Absolutely horrifying. What on earth drives these people to behave like that? It's just bizarre.

I'm off to meet Nic for a swim later this evening. We've not done that for ageeeees!

Right, comfort food for tea tonight, bacon, leeks and pasta in cheese sauce - making extra for tomorrow too, so when I get in late, jobs a good un. Morning all,

Great message Chris - I think that health promotion is so worthwhile! As many of you know it is my field of work - I work as a cancer specialist nurse & the majority of my patient are men. I have to say most of them are taken to the GP by their wives/partners!!!!!!

If anyone is interested we are doing a live webcast of prostate cancer surgery on Tuesday. I know I can't post a link to register & view here but I will email it round as I have most of your email addresses. This is going to be the FIRST in the country & we are all very excited!!!

Deevs, I agree entirely about Breast Cancer Screening, it should be available to anyone who has any concern at any age.

As Chris says about the boys ignoring things and not testing themselves, us women need to do the same. I must admit that I am not great at copping a feel and I should do it more often.

    Morning all

Yes Deevs I meant to say I was lucky enough in my NHS area to be invited for annual screening once I hit 40 as were many people across Newcastle. This was extremely lucky for a friend and colleague of mine who ended up being diagnosed with breast cancer at a few weeks after her 44th birthday. So if that screening experiment saved even one life it was so worthwhile. It is weird for me now that I am over 50 not to have that annual visit!

Quite sunny here today too - must venture out for a walk and not treat myself to coffee and cookie when I do today as defeats the object I think lol

Hugs and stuff to all that need it.

    Love

    Hello.

A lovely sunny day here on the Wirral peninsula.

Bids-Thinking of Ben and hoping he will now make a speedy recovery after the keyhole surgery, it's amazing what they can do these days. He must be getting really fed up now, we grown ups do in hospital, it must be 100 times worse for young people.

There should be regular screening all round as there's far too much cancer these days. My friend's sister has stomach cancer and is having chemotherapy. I have to say that despite so much of it about and the fact that my lung illness could turn to cancer I am still confident that I'm safe from it, it's just a strong intuition I have. A heart attack is far more likely although as the last one was nearly six years ago things are looking positive.

Anyway enough of this talk of illness, I'm off out while the sun's shining. But I do hope people will not stop to blow their noses right in front of me this time. Had to hold my breath three times the other day.

LOL Ali - "copping a feel" - oh so eloquent my dear!

    Hello everyone!

Wow, Susan that's really good of your health service (or ex health service as you're now relocated). Good on them, and when will the rest of the UK catch on?

Bids - lots of love to Ben. It must be extremely worrying for you all and let's hope he soon makes a really speedy (and careful) recovery.

PJ - lovely and sunny here. I was even considering getting a deckchair out of the garage when I was out in the garden with Randall earlier. Glorious. And the cherry blossom tree in the garden is absolutely blooming beautiful. Literally.

Cath - good luck with the webcast. That's a real feather in the cap for your hospital. Hope it all goes well.

Hello everyone else - loving reading your work!

I'm having a fab day today. Getting my bot in gear and working out my networking groups, how much they cost, when they are etc. I've joined a Women's Networking Group this morning that meet monthly, and have an invite to another monthly group from a friend for next week. Tomorrow is my every other Friday breakfast meeting (which I love!) so this afternoon I shall be mostly preparing my elevator pitch and prepping. It'll be my first network breakfast since we've had puppy paws so it may be an early start for me tomorrow with the added extras of puppymummy time before leaving the house at 7.15 am!

Oh, and I've got an event to go to tonight too - the one that awarded me last month, so also really looking forward to that.

I think I enjoy the networking so much because working alone from home can make for long days. Please, don't get me wrong - I've never been happier, but it's good to have some real human interaction as well as you lot on here, my virtual colleagues!

    Yeh, things is good man!

    And it's nearly Friday.

Deevs: Weather here has defintely got better. Nipped out in my lunch break and it was blooming lovely. Looking good for my walk tomorrow.

Our cherry tree is also flowering. It was planted to flower around our son's birthday (born early May) and for the last few years it has finished flowering by the time his birthday arrives. What's that all about? Further evidence of global warming - discuss.

How did your visit from friends go yesterday morning?

    Regards PJ

  • Comment number 28.

It was lovely to see them PJ, thanks for asking. They weren't here for long but had a coffee, a slice of my marbled chocolate loaf and a play in the garden with Randall. They were up against it timewise - they dropped their girls off for the school bus, hurtled from Suffolk up to me in Cannock, then had to go to Stafford (the reason for their journey to these parts), then get back to Suffolk down the glorious M6/A14 in time to meet the school bus at 5pm!

    Lunch break. Now there's a thought ......

    Afernoon all,

CLP, so glad you are promoting health awareness , hopefully you will encourage more people to get checked out if they have concerns .
I have lost all my family to the big C , and yet I am still too young to be considered "at risk" . It bothers me greatly, so I am extra concious of checking my bits and bobs, and not afraid to go and seek reassurance from my GP - if i can ever get an appointment that is.

Anyway, onto other things, Bids, will be thinking of Ben, and i hope his surgery goes well.
Deevs, good luck with the networking, i hope all your hard work begins to pay off soon.

Its getting sunnier here as the day goes on, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that it stays for the weekend. I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to the hour going forward . Well, I will miss that extra hour's sleep, but the thought of light nights and sitting in the garden really excites me.

Right, got to get back on my perch.

Have a nice afternoon everyone, hugs and high fives to all.

Good Morning all, from a beautifully sunny Somerset coast.

It started off misty here too Gail, but is now burning off, so I hope the same is happening up there for you too.

Yesterday was a belter, I had a fairly long day on the coach, but with the in between waiting around bits, managed to sit in the sun.

There are some real bargains to be had at the moment on one of our more well known coach operators. Salisbury to Bristol cost the grand sum of £2.50 and in fact, the trip the week or so before, from Bristol to Southampton was only £3.50 and I could have stayed on to Portsmouth for an extra pound. Tap in fun fares, you will be amazed at whats on offer and not always off peak either.

I had been hoping to spot the return of the first swallows while down on the south coast, but it wasn't to be and I wouldn't be surprised to see them around here in the next day or two, as I know that they have already reached parts of Pembrokeshire, only across the water from here really.

However, I was lucky enough to see a vast selection of other birds, ducks, some of which I had never even heard of before, let alone spotted.

I have posted most of them daily, on my fb wall, but amongst them, were Godwits, Red breasted Mergansers (amazing!) Curlews, with their almost haunting warbling cry, Tufted ducks, Teal..... the list could go on and on.

On the last day, while sitting on the estuary, a huge flock of Brent geese flew in, several hundred of them and landed almost at our feet. They are heading back to Alaska for the summer and most of them have already gone, so this indeed was a treat and they were noisily feasting away on what they could in preparation for the long flight, until, a sheepdog, off his lead, came bounding along the shore, at the rate of knots and did what came naturally, and decided, that they needed rounding up.

Off to the skies they took and it was almost like a total blackout as they noisily departed in the direction of the South downs and gradually faded out of sight.

OOps, thats a bit of a ramble, but sights like that, like I always say... no price tag.

Wishing Ben, well for today Bids, will keep in touch as you know.

Right, off to gaze skywards, any day now, I am sure.

Wishing everyone a great weekend :)

    Right, let's start again.

    Morning everyone!

I've now been playing out in the garden with Randall, and acted as a puppy trapoline on the kitchen floor. Yes, you're right. It's jsut not worth it.

Ali - you will be great! You're generous, honest and you have faith. What's not to work?

Sezza- you might need me soon? Why? Do you too have puddles of puppy wee that need mopping up? ;-)

CB - that made me laugh. WHY do chaps keep checking their credentials? I've noticed that some children actually hold on to their crabsticks through their trousers when out shopping etc. Why is that!?!? It's not like they're going to get stolen or owt is it!?

Nic and I went to see John Bishop live and he was, without doubt, one of the funniest comedians I've ever seen. And there's been a fair few over the years! He has charm, is kind on the eye and his wit is razor sharp. I only hope he doesn't go the same way as Michael McIntyre and "sell out" too much to the big, shiny, commercial way of life. (I was lucky enough to see MMcIntyre at a VERY small venue in Essex before his star ascended to its current dizzy heights status - only about 200 in the audience!)

This morning's network event was good. A lovely breakfast, at a great local venue and some prospects to follow up. Can't ask for much more than that!

And last night's meeting was all about websites so I've now got lots of food for thought and will be re-jigging my website over the coming days/weeks. I just need courage - web design isn't my prime skill but I can't afford to have it done by a Pro .....

Weather-wise, it's murky here. MC might call it shonky. Thick thick fog this morning, now a grey sky, with grey mist. Later I shall venture out to do the shopping and then venture home again.

    Right, let's work.

    Thanks everyone.

Deevs the sun is out in Shropshire and I have been out with my technical equipment (a finger licked and held up to check the wind) and the clouds are definately being pushed along so I reckon the sun will be with you shortly...

Notley High School? Really?!?!? OMG - yes, that's really made me smile! We used to play hockey against Notley High - you can't beat a bit of friendly local rivalry between school. As I recall, Notley High gave great shin bruises!

That's also reminded me of an old school friend, who emigrated to Canada with her family in 1983. We UK teenage girls were clamouring for anything and everything Duran Duran. One day, one of the girls in my class bought a letter in that she'd received from Kelly (the girl who had emigrated to Canada) and there were some photos of Duran Duran enclosed. Apparently, in an effort to break Canada and North America, DD had done a mini-tour of school gymnasiums. Coming from the UK, you can imagine how this made Kelly feel - and the rest of us green with envy! Selling out UK stadiums and then gyms in Calgari .....!

Right. I can hear a trolley calling me, so will be back later.

    Sezza, Exciting :) xx

I can confirm that the sun is out in North Kent, and I just popped into town to go to the bank and I can also confirm that the muffin tops and white chicken legs are also out. Put it away it's not attractive and it's not that hot!

    Is it nearly lunch time?

    Hello.

    Another lovely day here.

I was going to do the list but, apart from being able to remember everything without making notes, will no doubt lose it again.

Bids-hope there's good news today and that Ben is on the mend.

CSN-hope that your little grandchildren are OK, what a worrying time for you all.

I love John Bishop too, he's certainly not just a pretty face and a good comedian. He's a hero.

Nic & Deev's banter yesterday made me chuckle, MBD being a newcomer probably doesn't know they are a couple.

That's as far as I've got, if I scroll back it will probably disappear so a very happy Friday to everyone.

    OH!

I must just say Hello to MTF and really enjoyed reading your post. Some of the birds you mentioned we get around here, in fact there are roads named after some of them, i.e. Curlew Way, Tern Way, Mallard Way.

I will certanly google the coach trip website as that's something I could do.

Wow you mean they are a couple, I wish someone would have mentioned it before I made such an idiot of myself!

Just a quick question though. Would it have been funny if I had made a similar remark yesterday when the ladies of the blog were discussing screening for breast cancer.

I think not and that is why Chris Evans is fighting an uphill battle. Ladies feeling for lumps is very serious while a chap checking out his testicles is an excuse for schoolboy humour.

    Moderate away.

    MBD,

I take the matter very seriously but that shouldn't stop us from having a sense of humour.

  • Comment number 62.

You're on the ball there MBD. You would have made a booby had you made a remark.

    We can't argue with that!

    Mr Elastic
Some things just aren't funny and so perhaps just for once you could have kept your comic genius in check.

It's not even as if you were pushing the boundaries or challenging society's taboos, it was just childish, yes we all know that you've got a girlfriend.

    MaddyMoon

    I expected better from you.

Driving in this morning, i saw someone out in a reet titchy little summer outfit, then on the next corner another bod wrapped up with a scarf and wooly hat as if it was mid winter.

Birthday greetings to Gail too, hope you have a lovely weekend xx

Sal, I am watching out for the arrival of those swifty swallows ;-) There is a huge construction site underway right nextdoor to where i work so i am hoping it wont deter them from staying.

    Bids.

There's no need to say sorry at all, you must have been beside yourself with worry about Ben. Thank goodness that the antibiotics have now started to kick in and that there's no need for the surgery. He must be feeling really fed up by now but let's hope he'll now soon be home.

As for the date confusion, it's a good thing you didn't arrive at the venue today LOL!

The past couple of weeks I've been thinking Thursday was Friday and wondering why the TV schedule was wrong ha ha! I've got it right this week because of Sport Relief!
