Sound sign

It's been a while since I got out my trusty ChartBlog travel pad and gossip pencil, and left my desk for a rummage around the world of showbusiness, to see if I can't rustle up some interesting observations about pop stars and what they are like in the bits of their day job when they are not actually performing.

As you will see if you read this, the issue of whether I can or cannot rustle up these facts may prove to be a thorny one. Nevertheless, I can EXCLUSIVELY REVEAL that I did go to the filming of this week's Sound (starring the very lovely Nick 'Grimmy' Grimshaw, and Annie 'Annie Mac' Mac), and that their special musical guest this week was Lily Allen.

I have no photos of any of these people to prove this is the case. But it did.

Now, who wants to know what happened?

These are the amazing nuggets of celebrity gossip I managed to pick up in just a few short hours:

Nick and Annie towelsThe show takes place in a big open-plan flat in a secret location. And the production team have taken pains to dress the set so that it looks like the kind of dream home where musicans could just pop by for a cup of tea and a quick jam on their latest hit.

Such is their devotion to getting things just right, that there are even square patterns of blu-tack blobs on the wall, as if posters had been put up, but then fell down. That's what I call attention to detail.

I wonder if the mug rings on the kitchen worktop are painted on?

Speaking of which, during a break in filming, the following exchange occured between Lily and Annie Mac, concerning the mugs on the coffee table.

Lily: {Hopefuilly] "Is this real water? It's got a lot of dust on top of it."
Annie: "Help yourself to sweets, they're fresh."
Lily: "I don't eat sweets."

And THAT, my friends, is what life in the fast lane is REALLY LIKE.

Just before they resumed filming, a brief debate broke out between Lily and Grimmy. Being from The North, he says the word 'bath' with a lower-case "a", as in 'band', whereas Southern Lily says "barth". Her logic on why she is right and he is wrong is as follows:

"If the Queen lives in London, then it's the Queen's English, and she says 'barth'."

Lily's drum kitJust before her run-through of 'Smile', while waiting for the cameramen to squeegee their lens-filters (or something), Lily - who was wearing the kind of heels you use to make kebabs - could be heard singing 'The Promise' by Girls Aloud quietly to herself.

A little later on, as they prepared to shoot the quiz section, in which Lily had to compete against two super-fans in answering questions about her life, Grimmy kept everyone entertained by doing impressions of a chicken, using his squeaky horn to provide the clucking noises. He then complained of having a sweaty head.

There, that's it. There were other things which happened (two of the cast of Skins were there and had a very nice time too, as it happens) but I don't want to overload your gossip synapses, you could really hurt yourselves.

Still, in your face, Heat magazine!

Sound is on Â鶹Éç2 at 12:50pm, every Saturday.
Sound is also available in website form (once it has been on the telly)
