Same Difference - 'We R One'
I don't care how many times Simon Cowell/Louis Walsh/Cheryl Cole tries to convince me otherwise (Dannii Minogue seems at least to have maintained a dignified silence on the subject), I don't consider this year's X Factor finalists to be any great shakes - to be honest, most of them are boring me rigid. The only fun I've had has been watching the sullen looks on the faces of people like Scott, Austin and Laura when they got voted out far earlier than they clearly expected to be. It's left me feeling nostalgic for last year when at least you had people like Rhydian and Same Difference to look forward to each week - acts whose performances were always something to talk about, be they good or bad.
Mind you, as much as I supported Same Difference during the last series and voted for them furiously in a doomed attempt to thwart the dreaded Leon from winning, I never really thought they'd have much of a future as popstars. Their bright, sunny, Hooray For Everything charms belonged to the past - it was enough of a fluke when Steps got away with it, so it seemed unlikely that lightning would strike in the same place twice.
However, as you've clearly noticed by the fact that I'm writing a review about it, they've come up with a single, and it's not too shabby, actually. The first thing that strikes me about it is that it's a fairly blatant attempt to rip off 'Breaking Free' from High School Musical, both in terms of the way it sounds and the general "golly gee, we can do it" lyrics. I'm not saying it's a bad thing - I like HSM as much as the next person - but it's not as though they're even being subtle about it.
With that in mind, I should think they'll remain a fairly polarising act - you'll either be won over by their adorable earnestness and wish that you could be that uncynical about the world, or you'll find the whole thing naff and possibly a bit creepy. As for what the record-buying public is going to make of it, I haven't the foggiest. But I like that in a world where people seem to think that you have to be edgy and provocative to get attention (you can sit down now, Katy Perry), there is still at least some room for a bit of sunshine.

plus what is the obsession of putting song titles into txt speak. what does that add to the song, the single letter R except to sho that they are young and so extremely relevant. surely their appearance should show their youth? and relevance? i afraid that past the nineties they will never be relevant. alas also her strange hair-hat in the video.
despite all this i dont think the song is UTTER tripe; its holds a strange catchy appeal to me. :)
