Kaiser Chiefs - 'Everything Is Average Nowadays'
Only an idiot would call their song 'Everything Is Average Nowadays' if it was anything less than brilliant. The artists that give themselves the right to pass a lofty judgement such as this must be in possession of a mighty song indeed. Standing on high with their trousers down, preparing to drop the MOTHERLOAD on the mediocrity that lies beneath.
And so Earth, prepare to chuck out all of those paltry choons you've been harbouring. Prepare for the chart to DELETE ITSELF with shame as the Kaiser Chiefs reveal the song which is better than all songs, the piece of artistry that will reveal all of your modern passions to be FOLLY. Over to you Kaisers!

Well, on the plus side, this is one of few songs which actively reviews itself in the lyrics, which is a nice feature. But...where's the riot they once predicted? Where's the fun they promised (and delivered)? Is this some kind of grim acceptance of their/our failings? Or a cry for help? I'm depressed now.

I'm on the fence about the song, it's not the best but I like the middle of it
the title says it all...
how strange...the most average song of the year complaining of...averageness. the lyrics are rubbish too - consequence made to rhyme with fence, hoping we wont notice that average and craze dont rhyme, confusing tenses with everyone would do it if they can (?) and that awful bit where he forces too many syllables in. its awful awful awful!

They might be being ironic...and yes, just saying that everything is average, including us...in this song at least - are they teasing their fans, and saying, we dare you to buy this?! That's a bit of a dangerous game to play!

...and if they are saying everything is average, including this song, then what's the point of it? Why add to the supply of the averageness you're moaning about, if you're capable of something else? They could always take their own advice and go and DO something else!
And another thing! If they're pointing out how much better than average they are when they can be bothered, how very selfish of them to withhold their genius from us this time... :)

Well, I was just giving them the benefit of the doubt...though I did wonder if their record company would have gone along with making a song deliberately average!
But if they do think it's better than it is, what are they doing at the end of the video? Or is THAT where they're trying to be ironic, pretending this is just an ordinary song when we all know...it's brilliant??? That would be a bit cocky, wouldn't it?!...and a bit risky. They're going to meet their own irony coming backwards and do themselves an injury!

Anyway, if EVERYTHING's average, what's the problem? There's nothing better to compare anything with, and nobody will notice! Except the mighty Kaisers do, 'cos they're the only thing that's not average, of course!
Actually, listening to it again, it's ok! But it is a bit like saying, "I've got nothing left to say except that I've got nothing left to say."
Right, that's it - time to do something else before I get stuck here forever - this song is a TRAP, I tell you!! ;-)
I hate to criticise the Kaisers as I'm a huge fan (have their new album the with the special DVD edition and went to see them at the Doncaster Dome, hehe I live right next to it pretty much), but when I found out they were releasing this as a single I was a bit disappointed. I like the song but there are waaay better songs they should have released like 'The Angry Mob,' Heat Dies Down,' 'Thank You Very Much' or 'Learnt My Lesson Well.'
Oh well, they are still one of my favourite bands and hopefully they'll choose a good track to release for their next single, although I don't think any other single released can beat 'Ruby,' that's like one of the best songs of all time in my book.

Horrible music. It sounded so horrible to me that I felt the urge to look up on the internet who is capable of producing such crap. The guys look nice though, may be they are just 'misled'.
It's okay I suppose....I kinda recognise it, actually. But it's a bit boring. After 10 seconds of it on the radio, I'd get bored and I'd stop paying attention. Mind you, I do have the attention span of a deranged flea.....:)
Also, how many Rachel's are there on here? I saw a comment by someone called Rachel and I got all confused, I was like 'wtf?....I didn't write that.' then I realised it wouldn't be me because there are other Rachel's so I was like 'oh....yeah!'

Actually, Kasier Chiefs are probably the best band ever especially compared to the poppy scum around nowadays *coughmcflycough* Also "Emma" they weren't rhyming "average" and "craze", the song went "when everyone is following the craze/ofeverything is avarage nowadays" So there. And if anyone has the right to pass judgement, it's t'chiefs. You people have some issues.
