Justin Timberlake - 'What Goes Around'
If you believe the tabloids, JT's gone straight out of the arms of Cameron and straight into locking lips with gorgeous-face Scarlett Johanson. In which case, we'd expect this single to be a celebratory smugfest from El Trousersnake about his prowess as a slick lady warrior. Instead, it's a mournful tune about a relationship which is about to die on its arse. He don't want to think about it, don't want to talk about, but thankfully for us, he DOES want to sing about it.
'What Goes Around...' is another chunk of perfectly-structured saddo pop from the man with the sexy back.There are soft hand claps, slow beats, violins and the usual sacharine sweet vocals, plus some manly 'ughs' thrown in for good measure. And the chorus is a beautiful construction of silky-smooth harmonies that wouldn't look out of place in an advert for some REALLY tasty chocolate.
It could even be Cameron's 'Cry Me A River', but there's less underlying angst. The verdict? It all meanders along nicely enough but lacks a bit of punch. So Justin, seeing as you went to all the trouble to return it to us once, could you bring back the sexy again..?
