Another great show and possibly the best yet. Sorry to hear it's the last one. I hope there will be a second series. Well done to all involved. Ed was a very engaging guest and gave good insight into what it means to be in a great band. He seemed very humble too. What a guy.

I've really enjoyed the mix tapes - such a shame they are going on holiday. But hey, we have adam and joe back, so I cant complain. Awesome show to end on too!!

Well there I was happily listening along on my Feesat box (had to tape the show today) when all of a sudden you announce that this will be the last mixtape for the foreseeable future. This is very sad news, I hope someday we will again hear "It's a mixtape, it's a big mixtape....(cue monkey noises)" over the airways! Gonna miss you Beardy Buckles, but also looking forward greatly to the Glast-on-berry Festive-hole shows. I just wanted to say (as a humble listener)that you have made my Sunday for the last few months and I will really miss your little mixtape show. :( :(

Anyway *wipes away tears*, back to business...today's show...
Ed O'Brien, what a lovely, lovely man he can most certainly share the nicest man in rock trophy with the Grohlster...they can each hold one handle and raise it high together. It was so interesting to here some of his stories about life in Radiohead. He most definitely has a voice for radio too, I could see him presenting (when he gets a free moment) like Jarvis...just a thought. Your talk about backing singers made me think of my fave Michael Macdonald...you should have asked Ed who his fave is... nay mind...

Yay you played the 'Tears in Rain speech' from ze Bladerunner. I love that speech with all the images of Roy's life travelling around space! It was so great to hear the lost Deckard voice over too. It totally made me look at that scene in a different light...I never saw the ironical-ness of it before ;)

I loved the alternative Armstrong lines that peeps had sent in to you, my fave was the "...one giant birthday cake for conspiracy theorists" genius!

I can't believe you played "Walking on the Moon"! You never cease to amaze and suprise me with your choices which is one of the great things about the show...and the Black Hole soundtrack by the wonderful John Barry genius movie composer...a nice little memory for you there (and others of your era)!

I knew there would be some Bowie references in there, and it had to be The Man Who Fell to Earth...I think it's when he is talking to Rip Torn's character, but I may be wrong. I loved the way it led into the gorgeus Beach Boys track.

NICE move NOT playing the obvious version of Space Oddity. Although that version is very minimalist it highlights Bowie's great voice don't you think.

I so loved that funky version of "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (good choice Ed) I was such a huge Stanley Clark fan in my schooldays, I had no idea about this record, it totally worked didn't it...it wasn't at all cheesey!

I was laughing my socks off at the Portsmouth Sinfonia bit, so funny! Also chuckled at Radiohead's previous incarnations...Shindig...hehe! Interesting choice of Blue Bayou but totally got the link. That song was also used in Man on Fire with Denzel to great effect, he was kind of obsessed with it, only I think it was the Linda Ronstadt version.

I wonder if anyone else spotted the "Dark Star" quote in your megamix...a great and very funny movie, made on a teeny tiny budget, who can forget the beachball alien! :D

Ed, you made a sweet choice with My Guy by Mary Wells, just a lovely song...that's also a nice thing for people to think about..what would their spacesong be???

Lastly with the beautiful Eno music from Apollo and the quote from the astronaut about looking back on the earth...well I got quite emotional and dare I say it tearful at the thought of it being the last mixtape...but it was a fitting and lovely end to a fun series.

As @marge has said so well you've made my Sundays for the last few weeks, Mr Adam. A loads of fun and some absolutely cracking tunes a lot of which were completely new to me (Boards Of Canada, Coconut Records) plus some really interesting guests (special mention to Louis and especially Garth). I still can't believe I forgot The Rezillos - My Baby Does Good Sculptures for the Pop Art tape but I sort of got the wrong idea about that one. :(
This weeks tape was another cracker. I am fascinated about space and what might be out there and the Apollo astronaut stuff always seems so profound to me. Why, as a species, we want to spend time in green screen studios spending billions making movies about smurfs in space when we should cementing our place in the cosmos & finding out what is really there is beyond me. We seem to want the security of just staring at our navels and playing with our trinkets rather than doing something important for future generations. 41 years since the moon landings and now our only human presence in space will be Beardey Branson & his gazillionaire space tourists. And thats the problem with our species now isn't it? If it doesn't make a profit, don't bother. We should be ashamed of ourselves. Sorry about that, I'll get off me hobby horse now!

I spotted the Dark Star bit too. Great film, written by the guy who later did Alien. Thank you for squeezing in the Bladerunner speech when it wasn't really about space (just for us.). We had The Portsmouth Sinfonia album when I was a kid so that brought back a lot of happy memories. You haven't lived til you've heard their version of "You've Really Got Me" with the worst cymbal playing evah. Pant wettingly funny. I wonder if my Mum still has it?
My space song would have to be "Love & Affection" by Joan Armatrading. If I was looking down on the wonder of our planet, I would need the most beautiful song ever recorded and "Love & Affection" is it. I think it just the most perfect combination of lyrics, mood and melody in one perfect 4:39 of music. There I've said it and I don't care.

I'll run the risk of the wrath of the moderators but here we go. (big gulp, dons tin helmet). As I have mentioned on here before I've been working on my own website and its about musical memories, about what music means to you, the special songs that make up the soundtrack of your life. Its not really finished yet (I wanted to wait til we had a few more entries before showing to you wonderful people) but I would love it if you were to pop over to;

Oh Adam, you picked my name! I am genuinely surprised and dead chuffed. I did a little 'squee!' when both my Facebook and my Twitter exploded with friends telling me I got a shoutout (I can't listen live because I live in New York). I'm doubly proud that I named the very last Mixtape, although it is with mixed feelings as I'm horribly sad to lose you on Sundays. This show was a great idea and you did a fabulous job.

Well hello. I haven’t actually listened to this yet; I was able to catch the first ten minutes yesterday though so I do know it’s the last show for a while. I just wanted to say how much I’ve enjoyed it, I speculated somewhere on this blog before about what the A&J show would be like if you picked all the music, and so this was pretty much perfect for me! My own current compilations have been enriched by things I’ve discovered: The Shins, Ween, Tortoise, Jonathan Richman, Boards of Canada… and great to hear so much of my favourite stuff on the radio – Grizzly Bear, Sparks, Scott Walker, Kate Bush, Talking Heads and of course XTC, I was very happy with my mention with my former name of Bolly Knickers!

Looking forward to hearing the last-for-now show this week, I haven’t looked at what music’s on it yet as I like it to be a surprise! Thank you Adam and 6music for such a fantastic series, come back soon!

I just watched the Shatner Rocket Man video....Ummmm...I was sat open mouthed...it's staggering that the crowd were so quiet and respectful...I kept waiting for the hysterical laughter, but no they just politely listened and then cheered and clapped at the end! Amazing, I would have been in a happy tear filled puddle on the floor if I was in the audience for that :D

This has been an absolutely brilliant series. It's not so much the witty banter that one expects from Dr Buckles, but the fact it's introduced me to so much great old and new music that I'd never heard of. Steve Jobs is now making even more money from me, probably buying himself a gold plated jetpack tomorrow.

Being the nostalgic kind, I'm really really sad this was the last mixtape. I usually hate Sundays, but you Adam had made them something to look forward to. I would wake up and shower and click on "Â鶹Éç 6 Music" in my list of favourites here on the left, and I would wait for your show with excitement. *shed a tear* So thank you, thank you, thank you for all the great mix tapes and for making my Sundays brighter.

Ahh, now I've listened to the last show I miss it even more and it isn't even Sunday yet!

When you are back on the Squadron shift, please can you have more freeplays if the 6 music cheeses allow it? I don’t think there was a single track on the Big Mixtapes that I didn’t enjoy (Actually there was one, just the Bugsy Malone one due to being forced to watch the movie at school on a wet day at the end of term, but I think a lot of people have similar issues! I can appreciate that it is a good song, even if it makes me want to run away) and I’ve got loads of things to investigate still that I wrote down.

I really hope Big Mixtape comes back though, after so many years of radio listening it was definitely the best thing I’ve ever listened to.

Dear Dr Buckles;

This is a bit delayed, but I've finally managed to grab five minutes (on the train to my wonderful job) to write and say thank you for the wonderful Space mixtape. The music was perfect, and your chatterations with Ed effortlessly interesting (even to a Radiohead philistine like me). I was really sad when you announced it would be the last one for now, but talk about going out on a high-note. You always seem to make self-deprecating remarks about your 'unconventional' interviewing technique but as someone who usually finds interviews rather excruciating to listen to (mostly due to boredom of hearing the same sorts of questions/sycophancy over & over) I think the BMT gets the mix (ha!) just right between seriousness, lunacy and the general sharing of music geekery.

So yes, 'A Tape Odyssey' was great but thank you generally for the Mixtape show. I've looked forward to it every week and now there's a giant Buxtonian chasm* in my Sunday afternoons. I hope you'll come back soon.

Meanwhile at least there's still BUG - I know at least 5 other TwitSquadron members who are attending/planning to attend on the 15th so we'll probably all wave at you shyly from behind our Twitter-enabled smartphones. No weird gifts planned this time though (that I know of).

The other day I thought I would have a go at a tracklist for one of the mixes I suggested, a mixtape to cheer someone up.
