ATTACK THE BLOCK PREMIERE

Post categories:

Adam Buxton Adam Buxton | 12:07 UK time, Thursday, 5 May 2011

Last night James and I went along to Leicester Square in London's glitzy and exciting West End and attended the premiere of Joe's debut feature as both writer and director, Attack The Block. As you can see form the picture below (taken by Garth Jennings who also came along) I went for the top hat and tails. It was the first time I'd worn this suit since I got married. I found some 10 year old cocktail sticks in the pockets. They still had some mini sausage residue on them. Yummolicious! As you can imagine the presence of Dr Buckles in such a spectacular and arousing outfit sent the paparazzi completely mentile and the flash bulb scrumage was so intense that I was blinded for about 10 minutes and had to be lead to my seat by a gang of nude women. I've asked my PR team to keep as many of the pictures out of the papers as possible as I didn't want the whole thing to be about me. I hope they've respected my wishes.

Inside the cinema there were lots of friendly and variously famous faces including Joe's lovely lady partner, his equally lovely Ma & Pa, Jonathan Ross and Jane Goldman, Peter Serafinowicz (my guest at BUG next week incidentally) and Sarah Alexander, Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright, Jessica Hynes, Jon Ronson, Matt Holness, Bradd Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, Robert Pattinson, Keith Chegwin and Hufty. Can you spot where I started lying there?

Of course the main thing I was concerned with was the snack situation. They had free popcorn on the seats (in bags that is) and fruit flavoured water in the arm rests. I tried the flavoured water but decided to squeeze some lemon into a cup of my own urine and drink that instead. I mean, I didn't but I may as well have done. In addition I got some Maltesers for James and I had some Revels. James didn't finish his Teasers cos it was so hot in the auditorium (the heat presumably generated by Joe, he's so hot right now) that after a while they went too melty. I avoided that problem by polishing my Revels in around 10 minutes flat. So anyway, there was a film too...

After a nice funny and heartfelt introduction from Joe and the obligatory line up of the cast we sat back and watched Attack The Block. It's a peach. Exciting, super tight, funny and scary. Like me in other words. I have no doubt it's going to do very well indeed though I guess part of me hopes it doesn't mean that Joe will be so busy from now on that our radio assignations will become impossible. We'll have to see, but for the time being I urge you to check it out. It's the beginning of what I'm sure will be a very successful career for Torpedo Commander and Movie Wrangler Jozzer Cornballs. Well done man!

Pleased to hear it went without any hitches, Dr. Buckles. You certainly cut a dash.

I share your feelings regarding the film. I'm immensely happy for Joe that his debut feature is going down so well, and that all his hard work has proven worth it. I do hope, however, that the films success won't snuff the radio show out for good, as you make for a lolly, lolly couple on your radio show, blind-a date-a!

Pulling out all the stops there Buckles! Looking sharp yet eccentric ;D You needn't have worried about looking good. Isn't it nice when your wedding clothes still fit :D
From the flurry of tweets it sounds like a great time was had by all at the premiere and the after show shenanigans. Congrats all round.

you look ready to be married up.....but you've already taken care of that. You look wonderful. All that agonising worry paid off.

Don't worry about Joe's success. It took him how many years to write this one? :P

I too am concerned about potential future disruption to the radio show caused by Cornish's impending meteoric rise in the film world. The obvious solution which comes to mind is to boycot the movie but that seems a little childish so perhaps the black squadron could help to reduce the workload involved in any future film work by forming the cast of extras?

Oh bless your collective cotton socks. Looking wonderful Mr Buckles and I'm so happy for Dr. Sexy. Saw ATB last week at Channel 4 and spilt(spilled?? spelt??? spiled??) my wine no fewer than three times in fright. Would be upset about lost wine if film weren't so dern good. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XOXOX

Hopefully Joe won't have to add "write and direct feature film" to the list of "Never Agains" that hangs in his office. By the way, I've always wondered what else is on that list...

Great reaction to the "What do I wear?" question. Just go all out and wear your most formal attire. I think it's missing a large comedy cigar.

When Joe becomes a mega film maker man he'll have to move Adam into a giant shed on the grounds of his Hollywood mansion. They can start filming a sitcom about their lives. Naming suggestions?

I hope you removed that hat during the screening, otherwise you would have enraged the people behind you.

Congrats on the film Cornballs, I can't wait to see it!

Joe's Ma & Pa are Jonathan Ross and Jane Goldman? Who'd thunk it?

Congrats Joe - looking forward to seeing the film soon.

So exciting!! Great outfit Buckles! Congratulations to Cornish for all the amazing reviews that Attack the Block is getting at the moment too.

I just hope the movie will be available with subtitles when I see it, because I can't understand a single word of what those kids are saying in the trailer. I'm probably too American... even though I'm Swedish.

You're looking scrumdiddlyumptious Dr Buck. Look at those other people in their jeans, trainers, jumpers and the like. Huh. You showed them. And don't worry yourself about Joe, it'll all work out for the best.

    Congratulations to Torp.Comm. Cornballs too!

All Fingers crossed, toes and some hair plaited into crosses.

A cunning plan, Adam. Can I expect to see the film you captured with your camera-hat at a scary market near me?

  • Comment number 17.

Great outfit, however your keks have tramlines - you really have just yanked it out of the back of the wardrobe! - Good luck with a British film.

I wonder if that's the top hat Adam got at the camden crawl the other year... if I remember correctly it was quite expensive (for camden) so best to get your moneys worth if it's the same hat.

P.s I bet you were soooooo tempted to sneak in and see Fast and the Furious 5 instead.

    V. dapper, Count Buckules! Glad to see your flies are well and truly done up for the photo. xxOO

  • Comment number 20.

If that isn't the famous top hat, then that means Sir Bucks-a-lot has a minimum of two... which would of course be very normal behaviour. I wonder how many bowlers are in his formal Commonwealth Millinery collection..? ;-O

I expect to see top hats on the front cover of grazia next week (other lady mags are available, all are pretty much the same)

Oh and I was looking through a gallery of photos from the ATB premiere and noticed Anthony Head, Jodie Whittaker, Anthony Head, and various others including Louis Theroux and of course El Capitan Cornballs... but no Dr Bucks!! Total snubbaroo.

So it got me thinking of famous outfits that had gotten LOTS of attention and here are some options I think Adam should consider for the next premiere he attends

A suit entirely made of pastry (remember lady gagas meat dress?)

A sexy Suit that is held together with large gold safety pins only barely covering the rude bits (Inspired by that Liz Hurley Versace dress)

Another Liz Hurley option is a pair of scarlet red trousers with one leg having a huge slit up the side to expose the leopard print thong underneath.

Or you could just go with the classic Madonna cone bra, it's due a comeback (Scarily... so is Madonna)
