'George's Marvellous Medicine' by Roald Dahl (dramatisation)

Description

A dramatised extract from 鈥楪eorge鈥檚 Marvellous Medicine鈥 by Roald Dahl. George comes up with an idea to shock his Grandma with a magic medicine.

Classroom Ideas

Students could consider who is the baddie and who is the goodie in this story. Share with students that in most of Roald Dahl鈥檚 books the children are the heroes and the adults are the bad guys. How does he make these two different characters clear? Students could use the descriptive language in this clip to create a word bank of adjectives for a good character and one for a baddie. They could then use these to create characters in their own writing.

Alternatively, students could create their own medicine for Granny using powerful adjectives, similes and metaphors to describe the ingredients and the results of taking a spoonful of the mixture. Model the first few ingredients using text from the book and encourage students to continue in this style.
