Governance

The Â鶹Éç World Service Corporate Governance Framework

Â鶹Éç World Service is funded by a Parliamentary Grant-in-Aid, administered by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of the British government.

Operationally, Â鶹Éç World Service is part of the Â鶹Éç. The FCO, in close consultation with Â鶹Éç World Service, is involved in the process of deciding which languages are broadcast, but production and editorial control rests entirely with the Â鶹Éç.

The relationship between Â鶹Éç World Service and the FCO is governed by two documents: the Broadcasting Agreement, which sets out the aims and objectives of Â鶹Éç World Service and provisions for performance assessment; and, the Financial Memorandum, which sets out the financial arrangements.

The Â鶹Éç World Service Board is operationally responsible for complying with these two documents.

Within the Â鶹Éç ultimate responsibility for Â鶹Éç World Service is vested in the Â鶹Éç Trust, which is the sovereign body of the corporation. The Â鶹Éç Trust and the Â鶹Éç executive Board ensure that Â鶹Éç World Service operates responsibly and maintains high standards of editorial integrity and content.

The respective responsibilities of the Â鶹Éç Trust and the Â鶹Éç executive Board relating to the operation of Â鶹Éç World Service are outlined in a protocol published by the Â鶹Éç Trust.

This and the following pages contain reports on Â鶹Éç World Service’s policies, procedures and compliance on governance matters, namely:
