With heavyweight albums released by Aled Jones, Bryn Terfel and Katherine Jenkins this month, classical music in Wales is clearly in the midst of a bit of a purple patch.

Tellingly, all feature a range of traditional songs and modern interpretations, containing the type of classical crossover material designed to please old and new fans alike.
Produced and deftly arranged by Chris Hazell and featuring the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, New Horizons does a fine job in showcasing the ample talents of Aled Jones - from Panis Angelicus, his duet with Bryn Terfel, to a reading of Stevie Wonder's If It's Magic.
Three songs lean on Jones' Welsh roots, most pertinently the closing Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau. But it's in his interpretations of more recent songs (Places, Edelweiss) that tenor truly finds the new horizons of the title.
