Westlife put on a great show

Chantry Park's sea of green grass turned to a colourful ocean of bobbing heads on Saturday 31st July as hopeful fans anticipated the arrival of their pop gods.

The conditions couldn't be better, clear blue skies, scorching sunshine and a gentle breeze. The compere kicked off advising the eager audience to "buy sun cream" and "drink lots of water" but at Â£1.50 a bottle protecting yourself from dehydration came at a price.

The marketeers had rolled into town, tickets on the gate a whopping Â£32 - within an hour over 6500 people graced the green grass of Chantry Park and the going was expected to be good.

First up, Chantry High School girl Stephanie Stretton. An incredible talent for someone so young. A strong stage presence and a voice to match, as we've heard on so many reality TV shows "copying acts like Whitney Houston is always a tough act to follow", but Stephanie just about managed to pull it off, her rendition of the soul diva's 'I wanna dance with somebody' warmed the crowd a treat and arguably endorsed why a concert with such huge names attached, should also promote home grown local talent.

Peter Andre took to the stage next, his new found partner Jordan admiringly gazing from beside me in the Press Pit. Now, I've never been a fan of our Pete, perhaps a jealous streak in me says a bloke with a look and a body like that just can't be a good singer - thankfully I'm wrong. He wowed the crowd with dance moves singing live throughout - a tough act to deliver but he did it with style which until now, I personally hadn't credited him with. A good mix of fast dance tunes and ballads, his climax being the resurrected tune 'Mysterious Girl' - the crowd came alive.

To follow were a couple of supporting acts which sadly deflated the now excited concert goers.
