Victoria Kimani
DJ Edu talks to Victoria Kimani, the singer he calls the "queen" of his homeland, Kenya.
This week鈥檚 special guest is Victoria Kimani. One of Kenya鈥檚 most successful female artists, DJ Edu calls her the 鈥渜ueen鈥 of his homeland.
Their conversation is wide ranging and revealing. Following the release of her new single Sexy, does Kimani believe female artists in Africa have to be sexy to succeed? Does she choose to present herself in the sexy way she does? Why does she promote brands such as Gucci and Balenciaga in her songs? Is the Victoria Kimani the world sees the real Victoria Kimani?
She confides (in a TIA exclusive!) that she is de-colonising her name and dropping 鈥榁ictoria鈥, wanting to be known simply as Kimani. She also says, despite her considerable success, that she feels her career has only just begun.
Also in the programme, DJ Edu鈥檚 10 in 10 鈥 ten hot tracks from ten different African countries all in ten minutes, and a classic track from Africa鈥檚 super-rich musical archive.
